Position: Senior Academic Coordinator - English as a Second Language Reports To: Chief Academic Officer Salary Schedule / Grade: Refer to Administrator Salary Schedule F.L.S.A Status: Exempt SummaryThe Senior Academic Coordinator organizes services for English Language Learners (ELLs) in order to advance their English language proficiency by providing ongoing professional development and monitoring key stakeholders in effective instructional practices specifically for ELLs through the implementation of the curriculum. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Assume the role of Point of Contact for all internal district functions involving ELL supports and services
Support and implement the district’s Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan in daily activities
Create program and departmental processes and maintain identification and assessment of such
Manage Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) teachers and support staff and provide opportunities of staff development
Provide meaningful access to all curricular and extracurricular activities
Collaborate with Office for Exceptional Children to provide dual services for ELL students with special education needs
Oversee student exits and monitoring; keeping accurate records of students who deny service ? Evaluate effectiveness of ELL program
Conduct observations of TESOL Teachers and support staff and provide training and development opportunities
Manage department budget including grant funding and distribution
Coordinate all required testing, including OELPA
Assume responsibility of the ELL academic program
Collaborate with other departments in the delivery of ELL services
Update ELL handbook as needed and ensure handbook is accessible to others
Assist with the recruitment, interviewing and selecting of teachers and support staff
Support school administrators and teachers in implementing best practices in supporting English Language Learners
Ensure that ELL program protocols and guidelines are implemented and followed throughout the school district.
Support district personnel in understanding and implementing ELL program procedures and instructional guidelines
Provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of ELL curriculum
Oversee, and in some instances deliver, the preliminary assessment of students new to the district and make recommendations related to program placement
Monitor the delivery of services to students on the ELL program
Develop the ELL grants (currently TBE/TPI and Title III) and monitor the expenditure of funds.
Oversee the implementation of the grants, especially the parent component.
Coordinate the purchase of materials and their use throughout the District
Provide input to building principals in the evaluation of ELL instructional assistants and ELL teachers.
Maintain and manage the ELL database. An updated enrollment is needed to generate the correct information for testing and for the grants
Work with general education teachers who have ELL students in their classroom by helping them differentiate the curriculum for ELL students
Participate in and help plan new teacher orientation and differentiation training
Determine classroom and State testing accommodations/modifications
Monitor student progress
Maintain student data and prepare state reports
Translate and interpret as needed
Serve as liaison between the district and families
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Qualifications
Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S.
Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
Minimum of five years of successful TESOL teaching experience
Current and valid Teaching and Administrative Licenses
Must have a current TESOL or Bilingual Endorsement issued by the Ohio Department of Education
Fluency in Spanish preferred

Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 40 pounds (100 pounds on wheels).
Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, climb, and stoop.

Work is performed in an office and classroom setting.
Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
Frequent travel to meetings/professional development and work assignments.
