Duties include advising the Police Department personnel on a range of criminal and constitutional laws; litigating matters such as police liability, forfeitures, risk protection orders, and criminal and administrative prosecution of local ordinances; reviewing and preparing policies and procedures regarding matters such as search and seizure, public records compliance, subpoenas, destruction of evidence; providing legal assistance during critical incidents; and training and updating Department personnel regarding new legislation, recent court decisions, and best practices. May take on additional matters at the direction of the City Attorney. A thorough background check will be conducted, as the position involves accessing sensitive data on Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS).
