Apply NowJob SummaryThis position is in the DC Office of Planning. The Office of Planning has the lead responsibility for planning the physical and economic development of the District of Columbia. The Office of Planning provides vision, framework, and principles to guide public and private development decisions. The office supports and coordinates efforts to encourage housing and neighborhood enhancement; to expand the employment base for the District residents; to promote the local economy and to retain, expand and attract new businesses. The office is responsible for zoning analysis, statistical services, and interagency coordination of economic development planning efforts and serves as the official Census State Data Center.
The incumbent reports to the Associate Director for Citywide and supports the work of Senior Planners, including through project management, logistics, and research support; community engagement support; and in convening inter-agency and inter-disciplinary efforts to shepherd development of holistic approaches and cross-cutting strategies to enhance planning efforts that can help ensure growth in the District is inclusive, resilient, and equitable in alignment with core values of Washington, DC. The position is involved in studies that include land use, zoning, urban design, economic, housing, transportation, environmental, civic facilities, public health, and equity analyses (among others) and initiatives that include significant stakeholder engagement and strategic communications. Responsibilities include assisting with identification of critical planning issues and conducting analyses that support facilities and capital budget planning, economic development, and revitalization opportunities, as well as sector-specific and innovation planning that is responsive to unforeseen challenges arising from dynamic urban change.
Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent research, collects, and verifies data on demographics, planning, revitalization, community, or development issues from various sources (technical literature, public meetings, site visits, census data, etc.) to be used in the development of planning studies and projects. The incumbent develops information plans for the Associate Director on special projects or assignments related to Major Development projects and planning studies. The ideal candidate will be expected to communicate effectively and efficiently verbally, in writing, and through visual communications.
The incumbent prepares specialized technical and analytical reports based on data collected, analyses conducted, or fieldwork/site visits. Reports include graphs, charts, maps developed to support findings. The incumbent contributes to community outreach and engagements for planning studies and projects, including preparing for and participating in community meetings. Incumbent must also possess the ability to manage complex concepts within multiple disciplines such as comprehensive planning, economics, policy development and analysis, and GIS. Incumbent must also possess knowledge of pertinent District and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and practices regarding long-range planning, including comprehensive planning.
