The Position: 

DC Scholars Public Charter School is seeking a part-time, temporary Middle School ELA Intervention Teacher (Grades 6-8) with a record of exceptional student achievement and growth. This individual must maintain an unwavering belief that all students can achieve and display a passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs. This is a grant-funded position, and we cannot guarantee the funding for this position will extend beyond June 2024. We are seeking an individual who can provide intervention for approximately 12-15 hours per week, collaborating with school leaders to develop a schedule that can work for students and the individual (hours likely broken up across three days).

The Middle School ELA Intervention Teacher will be responsible for implementing ELA interventions to middle school students, including the Read 180 program and writing interventions. This individual will be responsible for managing the intervention schedule, assessing and monitoring student progress, and collecting and sharing observations of program implementation and impact. 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Provide Direct Literacy Intervention Instruction to Students in Grades 6-8

  • Collaborate with ELA team to create student intervention schedules.
  • Facilitate Read 180 and writing intervention groups for middle school students. 
  • Assess and monitor student academic progress
  • Share student progress updates with teaching teams. 
  • Collect and share observations on program implementation and impact. 
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with students, staff, and families.

Background and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • At least 2 years of successful experience as a classroom teacher. 
  • Record of achieving results for students. 
  • Ability to measure, track, and share reports on student progress. 
  • Deep content knowledge and understanding of Common Core English Language Arts (ELA) standards and best practices; and 
  • Experience with Read 180 Intervention Program, strongly preferred.

  • Superior relationship management skills and the ability to build relationships, motivate, and engage a diverse group of students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; and 
  • Data analysis and reporting skills.
