Job description

Dean Baldwin Painting, is a 55-year old, well established, superior Aircraft Painting Company with 5 different US locations.

The facilities serve Commercial, Regional, VIP Corporate - Airbus and BBJ Aircraft Painting. Facilities operate 24/7. The Safety Manager is an integral part of the facilities leadership team.

The Safety Manager will be responsible for executing company safety policies and ensuring compliance with all applicable local and federal regulations. In addition, the Safety Manager must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. This individual must instruct and train employees in company safety policies and procedures. The Safety Manager will be required to identify best practices and incorporate these practices into our standards to continuously improve company safety programs and policies. These best practices will impact corporate savings through elimination of occupational injuries/illnesses, property damage and improvement of production efficiency, as well as safeguarding the health and safety of all employees.

Pay will be commensurate with experience.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manages the employee health and safety programs by managing current safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Provide employee safety awareness activities to prevent work-related injuries/illnesses
  • Monitor and assess company’s safety incentive and recognition programs and determine an effective approach to making safety top in everyone’s mind.
  • Establish & Maintain company safety goals and strategic plan annually. Present status updates at Quarterly Management Review Meetings.
  • Manage OSHA inspection and response process.
  • Plans, develops, and implements & manage DBP safety programs and train managers and employees in work site safety policies.
  • Ensure safety recordkeeping and data integrity. Provides Operations with accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.
  • Ensure that the facility is in complete compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Routinely review all applicable local, regional, state, and federal regulations and interpret requirements to the organization.
  • Provide development and implementation of routine audits to identify and correct non-compliance conditions.
  • Maintain an updated database of Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals in inventory.
  • Maintain the following plans and Manuals for the Facility:
  • Facility Contingency Plan
  • Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plan,
  • Emergency Action and Fire Prevention Plan
  • Hazardous Materials Security Plan
  • Facility Safety Manual
  • Respond to emergencies during regular work schedule and off shift times. Act as Incident Commander for the Facility.
  • Coordinate Workers Compensation and Return to Duty Programs.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 log, along with Annual reporting.
  • Maintain all Workers Compensation case files and report all workers compensation claims.
  • Investigate job accidents and incidents using Root Cause Analysis to ensure safe working practices are being followed.
  • Implement safety awareness activities and coordinate required training
  • Lead industrial hygiene and hearing conservation programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

  • Must be able to read, write and understand the English language fluently and have strong communication skills, both oral and written (training/presentations/report writing.)
  • Must possess a working knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, regulations, and guidelines.
  • The following work experience is preferred: investigating incidents, interviewing individuals, issuing corrective action, facilitating formal meetings, public speaking, and writing policies.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral and analytical capability. Must have the ability to explain technical safety concepts in simple terms using Root Cause Analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products; Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Must have exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work at all levels within and organization and the ability to work in a diverse work group
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills

Must possess or be able to obtain the following certifications:

  • OSHA 501 trainer card (OSHA 30-hour card minimum)
  • 49 CFR DOT trained
  • 40 CFR RCRA trained
  • OSHA 40-hour certification
  • Advanced CPR, First Aid and AED certified

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Preferred)
  • Safety Manager: 3 years (Required)
  • Certified Safety Professional
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist
  • Certified Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic
  • 120-hour Incident Commander

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Subject to continual loud noises.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and stand for prolonged periods of time, climb steps, ladders and or service/stands.
  • Must be able to work at heights utilizing fall protection equipment.

In 2015, Dean Baldwin Painting celebrated 50 years of continuous business. Over the past 54 years the Dean Baldwin team has had the privilege of painting thousands of aircraft for many great customers. The company was founded in 1965 and began as the primary paint provider to the Miami International Airport.
