Estimator/Project Manager

Summary:
Manage heavy and highway construction projects from beginning to end, including estimating and bidding, subcontract and PO setup, project scheduling, change order pricing and negotiation, contract administration, job costing reviews, billing, and project closeout. Assist field superintendents with project management, project documentation, scheduling and ordering materials to promote good project quality, safety and productivity. This position will involve both field and office work with direct supervision initially.

Duties Include:

• Actively pursue and search for bidding and other business opportunities per supervisor’s direction
• Complete accurate and thorough estimates of project materials, labor and equipment required to complete the project
• Review past bid results and internal project costs for projects and incorporate details as applicable.
• Review project specifications, plans, and related documents to determine the scope of work required for the project as a whole and the individual parts of the project
• Review subcontractor proposals based on specification requirements and incorporate them into the bid
• Visit project sites to understand project requirements and layout prior to estimation and bidding
• Prepare files for successfully bid projects detailing project quotes, take-offs and other applicable documentation for completing the project
• Prepare and submit submittals and shop drawings for projects prior to project start dates for approval of materials
• Communicate proactively with field superintendents and foreman concerning project requirements and needs including order materials and scheduling labor and equipment
• Aid field superintendents and foreman as needed to plan, organize and direct the work of employees and subcontractors
• Oversee construction site activities, contracts and budgets
• Monitor project schedules and progress
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction

Knowledge of:

• Heavy and Highway Construction principles and techniques

• Construction materials
• Construction equipment and capabilities
• Office equipment

Ability to:

• Read and interpret plans, specifications, schematics and shop drawings
• Efficiently use common bidding software and take-off computer programs
• Work over 40 hours as needed
• Learn and actively expand your role in the company
• Lift 50 pounds
• Walk on uneven terrain
• Work in a field environment with exposure to dust, weather conditions and noise
• Wear PPE while in the field
• Work in an office environment
• Sit for extended periods of time

Qualifications:

• Valid driver's license for state in which you reside, with a good driving record
• Must reside within 1 hour of travel time to Smethport, PA
• Strong computer skills
• Strong mathematics skills
• Strong analytical ability
• Excellent written and oral communication skills

Education:

• High School graduate
• A.A.S., A.S. or B.S. in mathematical related field
• Prefer A.A.S.,A.S. or B.S. in engineering, project/construction management, or construction related field

Experience:

• Past knowledge of heavy and highway construction practices and principles including earthwork, paving, utility, site development and bridge work
• AUTOCAD experience a plus
