This is a full-time role working Sunday through Thursday from 9:00am to 5:30pm, with an hourly rate that equates to annual pay in the low to mid $40s.

The Purchasing Supervisor will be responsible for purchasing and coordinating the procurement of goods for Deerfield’s culinary operations, including our in-house Bistro, full-service bar, assisted living dining and skilled nursing dining. This role reports to the Executive Chef and the ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of supply chain management principles.

  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure timely delivery of goods and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and culinary leadership to understand their purchasing needs and requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchasing activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as relevant regulations and standards, including upholding sanitation standards.
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of stock clerks as a day-to-day supervisor
  • Be a thought leader as well as providing hands-on support for all purchasing-related areas.
  • Ensure security for stock in the storeroom, refrigerators and freezers as well as the paper and chemical room.

Skills: 

  • Proven experience in food purchasing or in a similar role required, with a minimum of 2 years in procurement preferred; culinary experience strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement best practices and supplier management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and strong skills with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Presents self in a professional manner to others and understand that honesty and ethics are essential
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect
  • Maintains a professional relationship with vendors

General Qualifications

  • Proven experience in food procurement management
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and ability to adhere to Deerfield's requirements for being a company driver

Physical requirements

  • Significant walking
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds
  • May move or transport materials or supplies to other areas in the community using carts/electric hand truck
