Summary

The Team Leader, Freeze Dry works under the guidance of the Freeze Dry Supervisor to direct staffing of freeze dry employees; maintain and control all aspects of the freeze dry production process for packaging and forming; ensures specifications are being met from a raw and finished product standpoint; works with Supply Chain to ensure scheduling is accurate and achievable; and ensures food safety and safety standards are being maintained. This is a working, on the floor position. A critical component of this position is managing and overseeing continuous improvement projects for the area.

Job Duties

• Directs staffing based on production requirements.
• Ensures that the Freeze Dry Consumption Logs are being documented appropriately.
• Ensures accurate measurements are being taken and recorded for raw materials prior to forming.
• Ensures packaging staffing is well-informed and has the appropriate tools and documentation needed to complete a given production requirement.
• Writes and/or updates SOPs and procedures as needed.
• Works with Freeze Dry operators to ensure completion of MSS tasks.
• Works with Freeze Dry Supervisor and Quality Assurance/Food Safety to identify any food safety and HACCP-related gaps, correct when needed, and document appropriately.
• Works with Freeze Dry operators to identify gaps or areas for improvement.
• Ensures that all controlled documentation is current, legible, readily understood, complete and accurate, and in compliance with all applicable procedures and specifications.
• Participates in projects and meetings as required.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area in accordance with established corporate policies and procedures, and health and safety regulations.
• Plays a hands-on role in training/re-training of Freeze Dry staffing.
• Attends weekly/planning meeting and brings any issues/concerns to the attention of fellow team.
• Leads by example utilizing the Company’s Core Values as the basis for decision-making--this includes following all company policies, standards, and specifications.
• Works to ensure our Mission, Vision, Core Values and Culture of Champion Petfoods is understood and followed, demonstrated by her/his behavior of leading by example.
• Performs additional assignments per the direction of the Freeze Dry Supervisor, or the Operations Manager.

Requirements

• Ambitious and self-motivated with a positive attitude.
• Logical and organized with a clear focus on deliverables.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to lead teams in continuous improvement projects.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, GMPs, Food Safety, HACCP, and Quality.
• Knowledge of process control and general food manufacturing principles.
• • Ability to set priorities, utilize and coordinate resources, and manage projects from start to finish with little or no supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team across organization boundaries with diverse teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.
