As a Retail Buyer at Defender, you will play a crucial role in our operations by building strong relationships with vendors, managing inventory levels, and collaborating with various teams to ensure product availability, competitive pricing, and profitability.

Qualifications:

• 2 years of work experience in product retail management, buying, or another related role.
• Advanced computer skills - a high proficiency level in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with project management tools
• Outstanding time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills
• Professional in demeanor and appearance. Have a positive disposition.

The ideal candidate would have:

• Associate degree or 3-5 years of equivalent work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Marine/Boating experience preferred.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
• Extremely detail oriented.
• Ability to switch focus between tasks and work with frequent interruptions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks and stay organized. Self-directed.

Responsibilities:

• Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with vendors and other industry contacts.
• Negotiate key items such as pricing, payment terms, and programs.
• Analyze data and trends to identify new opportunities or potential issues with inventory or pricing.
• Use available tools to make seasonally appropriate buying decisions.
• Create and manage purchase orders to ensure timely delivery.
• Monitor and adjust pricing strategies to maximize sales and margin contribution.
• Monitor stock levels and effectively manage inventory. Develop and execute a plan to reduce overstock. Work with vendors on inventory rebalances.
• Stay informed about industry trends, new vendors, and market competition.
• Attend trade shows to meet suppliers and research new products.
• Collaborate with the Marketing team on product introductions and promotions.
• Provide ongoing support to all teams as needed to ensure a positive customer experience.
