Defense Media Activity is Hiring a SUPERVISORY PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST. Near Fort Meade, MD

Duties
As a SUPERVISORY PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST at the GS-1035-13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Supervise a team of 3-5 writers and perform all related administrative tasks (e.g. time and attendance, employee appraisals, employee talent management/development, civilian hiring actions)
  • Coordinate directly with senior leaders and strategic communication and public affairs professionals to establish appropriate deadlines and that content produced supports messaging and desired outcomes.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of current Department of the Army priorities and communication objectives.
  • Serve as the Army Production Directorate representative in all requests for writing support.
  • Assign news and human interest stories.
  • Serve as editor for the development or selection of visual content to support written products.
  • Adhere to process procedures for moving content through the workflow in a timely manner.
  • Serve as sole writer/editor on occasion, after duty hours and on weekends and holidays.

QualificationsYou may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Providing public affairs counsel, develops and applies new approaches to the complex communication activity in Public Affairs.
  • Planning and developing the communication of information programs, policies and actions concerning internal and public information issues to regional, national and international, internal and external audiences.
  • Developing public affairs plans, actions and news and feature articles.;
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
