Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY: The Pharmacy Inventory Supervisor oversees the procurement and storage of medications, supplies, and equipment. This individual is responsible for accurate purchase order development, invoice maintenance, acting upon drug recalls, drug shortages and resolution, and returning of expired medications. Additionally, the Pharmacy Inventory supervisor is responsible for inventory management, keeping accurate records that meet financial and regulatory requirements, inter-department billing, and other duties as assigned.

The Pharmacy Inventory Coordinator may also perform functions related to pharmaceutical preparation and distribution. These tasks may include but are not limited to non-sterile/sterile compounding, stocking automated dispensing cabinets, unit dose drug preparation, delivering medications to patient care areas, checking medication storage areas for outdates, and billing.

The Pharmacy Inventory Coordinator will serve as the subject matter expert in their designated specialty area, and involved in training pharmacy staff to perform functions of inventory management (buying, receiving, approving when applicable). They may assist with writing policies, implementing changes and improvements in their area of specialty, serving as a staff educator or trainer, and may oversee projects for the department.

What qualifications you will need:

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS

A. Licensure/Certification: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or national equivalent) with Texas Board of Pharmacy issued Pharmacy Technician Certificate, or Texas Board or Pharmacy issued Pharmacy Technician Trainee License.

If initially hired with a Texas Board of Pharmacy issues Pharmacy Technician Trainee License, must achieve Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or national equivalent) with the Texas Board of Pharmacy within an agreed upon timeframe not to exceed 12 months from the date of hire.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent

PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Required: Previous pharmacy technician experience
  • Preferred: Certification or education, knowledge and proficiency related to inventory management

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and Facility “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Typing and use of computer keyboard. Reading of some technical medical information, physician orders, patient MARs, checklists, and directions. Math Skills: basic math, algebra, measurements of amounts. Preparation of simple reports, completion of forms and logs, writing telephone messages. Communication via telephone, computer and face to face with staff, patients, and small groups. Excellent interpersonal skills with patients and other healthcare professionals.
