Del Valle ISD is Hiring a 2024 - 2025 Substitute: Child Development Center Near Del Valle, TX

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for planning and implementing all aspects of an educationally enriched child care program that is developmentally, individually and culturally appropriate for enrolled infants and toddlers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification

  • High School diploma or GED (Recognized by the Texas Education Agency or Regional Accrediting Agency)
  • Candidates must have a satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee. A second background check for Child Care Licensing will be required, but the school will pay for it.
  • Candidates will need to complete necessary paperwork for Child Care Licensing, and/or training as needed.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification may be offered to candidates as needed.
  • Candidates will need to obtain 24 hours of training each year.

Required Experience:

  • None

Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work well with children and adults.

Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written formats.

Knowledge of child growth and development is preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Professionalism

The Educators' Code of Ethics is set forth in the Texas Administrative Code to provide rules for standard practices and ethical conduct toward students, professional colleagues, school officials, parents, and members of the community.

Classroom Instruction and Management

The substitute promotes improvement of instruction and classroom management through activities such as the following:

  • Follows teacher plans and presents information and instruction to help students learn the subject matter and skills.
  • Maintains instruction that is compatible with the school and district curriculum goals.
  • Manages student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and DVCDC staff
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Communication and Community Relations

The substitute promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:

  • Be a positive role model for students, support the mission of the district.
  • Interacts effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Qualities of an Effective Substitute

The substitute exhibits qualities such as the following:

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
  • Daily flexibility to changeover to different assignments as dictated by campus administration and school needs.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform campus principal of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.
  • Complies with District policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Complies with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, and standards.

Equipment

Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, printer, copier, and other equipment applicable to the position.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Maintains emotional control under stress.
  • Works with frequent interruptions.
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
  • Occasional light lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds); may lift and move children and classroom equipment.
  • District wide travel.
  • Frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration.
  • Occasional exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces.
