Objectives

Incumbent is responsible for serving guardianship notice to proposed wards, conducting initial investigations, and submitting recommendations and reports to the court. Incumbent reports to the Court Visitor/Program Director.

Job Standards

Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, education, special education, or a related human services field. Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and a clean criminal record. Must assume a flexible work schedule, be available outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends and have access to reliable transportation. Work consists of complex, varied, non-standardized tasks, requiring the application of numerous laws, rules, regulations and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Retrieves and reviews information from the court’s case management system;
  • Updates forms from the State to ensure most updated and accurate forms are being utilized;
  • Conducts investigations in the manner established by the State of Ohio and the Ohio Revised Code;
  • Files reports in the Probate Court in accordance with court and department policies;
  • Attends mandated annual training and files completed training with the court;
  • Participates in quarterly visits with supervisor as directed;
  • Investigates the circumstances of alleged incompetency, communicates rights to the proposed ward, and files a report with the court as determined by the Ohio Revised Code;
  • Maintains positive working relationship with persons of diverse cultural, racial, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Complies with all documentation, supervision and training requirements designed for the program;
  • Reads and follows up with all court correspondence;
  • Models appropriate behavior for children and/or families;
  • Follows and adheres to timelines set by the court and supervisor; and
  • Practices professional on-line, in person and interpersonal communication skills
