OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

The Controller is responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions for Delta Dental of South Dakota. This position also supports the Chief Financial Officer with quarterly and year-end audit and tax deliverables and annual budgeting.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for all accounting activities; including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, bank reconciliations, claims payments, and general ledger accounting
• Responsible for timely, accurate and efficient accounting close activities; including monthly, quarterly and yearly reporting
• Directly supervise the accounting team members
• Assist the CFO with the annual financial audit and tax processes 
• Assist with annual budgeting process
• Assist in assessing and modifying existing procedures and controls with the intent to improve process efficiency and/or effectiveness
• Assist with special projects or additional requests as needed

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors (or similar) degree in Accounting with a minimum of 5 years financial experience is required
• CPA is strongly preferred
• Ability to effectively analyze financial information and present information to others in a clear and concise manner
• Ability to problem-solve; effectively organize and prioritize work; meet deadlines
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
