Denver Public Schools is Hiring an ASSESSMENT SPECIALIST Near Denver, CO

OFFICE OF OPERATIONS Traditional 235 work days per year FTE: 1.0 Salary Range: $67,106 - $80,527 **Please note: Applications will be received until May 20, 2024. Interested applicants must apply online by visiting the Denver Public Schools job board at careers.dpsk12.org.** Essential Functions and Objectives: Performs a variety of professional, technical, and administrative tasks overseeing all aspects of Colorado READ Act. Interprets public school rules, laws, policies, and updates Site Assessment Leads regarding the READ Act assessment and READ Plans. Trains school personnel in proper administration of the READ Act Assessment and creation of READ Plans for secondary schools. Interprets changes to the READ Act, READ Plans, and Colorado standards, ensuring READ Plans are aligned, and informs teachers and principals of the implications of these changes. - Assumes a lead role in a particular content area - READ Act for middle and high schools. - Develops assessment items to be used on District assessments and in the District item bank and develops model Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) and learning progressions for content area assigned. - Collaborates with other departments in the management, development and analysis of the READ Act and READ Plans. - Provides support and training in the use of various READ Act assessments, including semester and course assessments, common formative assessments, and item bank developed interim assessments; assists teachers and administrators with tools and resources to aid Plan creation and instruction. - Develops and provides training and staff development in the areas of assessment administration, ethical assessment practices, and the use of assessment information for the creations of high quality READ Plans, and instructional improvement. - Conducts analyses of assessment results. - Works with network staff to provide support and professional development to District schools in the areas of READ Plans, assessment literacy, and the use of online systems to deliver assessments and assessment results electronically. - Uses information from assessments to identify strengths and specific areas of need, including technical assistance and consultation on assessment administration, interpretation, and ethical considerations. - Collaborates with Curriculum and Instruction personnel on various projects and reports; advises and seeks advice from colleagues; prepares and conducts presentations for various groups as needed; and responds to administration and school requests for information. - Monitors READ Plan completion rates for the district, determining the quality of Plans and collaborating with schools to create next steps to address Plans that are not of high quality; contributes to the ongoing development and implementation of the READ Act, including providing support, communication, and READ Act training to school leaders and teachers. Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications: - Five (5) or more years of successful teaching experience, in grades 6-12 preferred. - Substantial knowledge of and experience working with Colorado Academic Standards and/or Common Core State Standards. - Experience with the administration and processing of digital literacy assessments. - Strong understanding of the fundamental assessment concepts (e.g., reliability, validity). - Ability to understand and interpret assessment data. - Ability to develop and present complex information to teachers, administrators, or other adults. - Effectively handles multiple demands and competing deadlines. - Works collaboratively with others on a team. - The ability to take responsibility for one's own performance. - Effective time management and organizational skills and an aptitude for variety and changing expectations in a fast-paced environment. - Effective verbal and written communication skills. - Knowledge with Microsoft Office/Google products including Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Docs. Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Workspace.
