Denver Rescue Mission is Hiring a Vice President of Programs - Community Life Near Denver, CO

Description

The Vice President of Programs – Community Life (VPPCL) is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day program operations at all of DRM’s shelter locations.

General Duties

  • Advance the mission of the Denver Rescue Mission through the delivery of healthy, safe, and engaging facility environments.
  • Foster a staff culture that lives out the Mission’s Christ-Centered Approach: Engage Mercifully, Work Wholistically, Speak Truthfully, Believe in Miracles. 
  • Create and administer all Community Life budgets, requisitions, petty cash, and donations. 
  • Manage the staff experience: hiring, onboarding, training, managing, performance, conflict, payroll, time-off, retaining, etc. 
  • Initiate and maintain good relations with all DRM departments. 
  • Maintain the community relationships necessary for the ongoing and responsive program operations of each program facility. 

Core Areas of Responsibility

Through the direction of environment-specific appointed staff, who serve as “property managers” for each site, ensure the day-to-day operational integrity of each program facility while fostering healthy, safe, and engaging environments. Areas of responsibility include, but may not be limited to: 

  • Facility Safety: Partnering with DRM’s Benefits & Risk Manager, ensure the Community Life team is appropriately resourced to facilitate both individual and environmental safety through policies, procedures, training, incident response and coordinating with emergency services.
  • Ministry Environment: Ensure the Community Life Team remains focused on facilitating ministry environments that are more Safe, more Serene, more Sanitary, more Secure, and more Social. And through these ministry environments, ensure that guests are engaged in ways designed to increase the social capital necessary to obtain and maintain stable housing.
  • Guest Services: Ensure front desks at each facility are appropriately resourced to greet each guest; perform routine intake and receiving tasks; can support case management related tasks, and all other site-specific administrative duties outside of those managed by other departments. 
  • Facility Health: Ensure the Community Life team is appropriately resourced to facilitate both individual and environmental health through policies, procedures, facilitating third-party health services and working as needed with state and local health departments. 
  • Client Engagement: Ensure that the Community Life team is appropriately resourced to facility healthy client engagement: staff and guest-lead on-site activities; facilitating third-party activities on-site; coordinating off-site activities, and where appropriate transportation. 
  • Operational Collaboration: Working with the various DRM departments to ensure that all operations needs are met in a timely fashion: Kitchen, Facilities/Maintenance, Custodial, Fleet, Volunteer Relations, Work Readiness, and Impact. 
  • Municipal and Organizational Partners: Maintain the relationships necessary for the operation of non-DRM-owned facilities; as well as to maintain a responsive and collaborative posture towards emergency sheltering and facility capacity maximization. 
  • Chaplaincy & Community Care: Through the direction of The Director of Chaplaincy & Community Care, ensure that staff are appropriately resourced to meet those we serve at their spiritual points of need – while they are staying within DRM facilities. Additionally, through the work of the Chaplain team, create and facilitate platforms for spiritual engagement and pastoral support: bible studies, prayer meetings, chapel services, etc.

Other

  • Convene weekly meetings with key staff members that promote collaboration, teamwork and personal accountability. 
  • Represent the Mission at meetings and on committees as directed. 
  • Communicate with the public through speaking assignments, community meetings, interviews, etc.as assigned. 
  • Perform other tasks, participate in project management teams, and complete additional duties as assigned. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher-level degree in Ministry, Human Services, Social Work, Education, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred. 
  • 5 years of increasingly responsible experience leading teams at an equivalent Director-level or above. (A combination of education and experience can be substituted to meet the education and experience requirements.)
  • Experience managing shelters, transitional housing, or supportive housing.
  • Experience leading hospitality, emergency, or basic-service delivery to a vulnerable clientele.
  • Experience with staff development and evaluation.
  • Experience managing staff across multiple locations preferred.
  • Experience managing staff across 24/7 shifts preferred. 
  • Experience leading within a HUD continuum of care (COC) or regional multi-agency collaborative context preferred.
  • Experience leading staff focused on a ministry of presence within a location-based ministry context preferred. 
  • Proven ability to maintain composure during stressful situations.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills. 
  • Clear communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability to manage conflict with and between subordinates, peers, and superiors, expeditiously and respectfully. 
  • Successful track-record of work with low-income, homeless, and/or indigent individuals and families. 
  • An active driver’s license as a limited amount of work-related travel may be required.

Hiring Range: $114,500 - $152,600, based on qualifications and experience.
