POSITION SUMMARY

USA for UNHCR (U4U) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager, Events and Program Visits. This is a new position that will play a critical role in fostering and maintaining strong relationships with key U4U supporter audiences, including major and mid-level donors, corporate, foundation and civil society partners, community engagement supporters and board members, with the goal of enhancing donor satisfaction, deepening their engagement, and driving long-term philanthropic support for refugees. Reporting to the Senior Director of Stewardship, the Manager will serve as the lead for planning, designing, and executing creative and engaging events aimed at deepening relationships and our donors’ understanding of our mission and the impact of their support. The successful incumbent will collaboratively propose, plan and execute comprehensive convenings that share gratitude and increase the retention of the most generous and committed supporters of U4U, including leading on program visits for high-level supporters to see the impact of their support firsthand. They will be the project manager on many initiatives and meaningful touchpoints and provide reporting and tracking to Development leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the guidance of the Senior Director, Stewardship, and in collaboration with the Private Philanthropy and Partnerships teams, develop and execute high-touch donor events and an engagement strategy to retain private philanthropy donors and partners through UNHCR, the Board of Directors and audience-centric campaigns such as Women in Philanthropy, Islamic Philanthropy, as well as other bespoke events.
  • Plan, execute, and attend (as required) multiple bespoke high touch in-person and virtual donor and partner events, salon dinners, briefings and virtual and in-person mission trips to UNHCR program sites to deepen donor engagement and commitment. Perform event management duties 
  • Independently create and execute work plans, timelines, run of shows, agendas, etc. for multiple stakeholders and events, often occurring simultaneously; Serve as the primary lead for the coordination of planning calls, both internally and externally, in partnership with fundraising leads
  • Coordinate cross-departmentally to ensure events are executed consistently with high-touch, personalized outreach, invitations, event collateral, programming, follow-up, working collaboratively with the Manager, Partnership Communications & Marketing, to design compelling, cohesive, on-brand materials.
  • Develop a system to seek, track, and incorporate feedback from donors and colleagues to continually improve events and measure and assess their ROI. Generate regular reports and analyses with metrics, trends, outcomes, and impact assessments, including event recaps.
  • Work with the Manager, Partnership Communications & Marketing, to create and maintain a do-it-yourself (DIY) events kit for fundraisers including sample run-of-shows, programs, timelines, donor acknowledgements, collateral and more. Create on SharePoint and keep updated regularly, socializing with the Development team periodically. 
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with U4U and UNHCR colleagues, as well as knowledge and expertise on UNHCR programs, emergencies, campaigns, and areas of priority to incorporate into U4U events. Propose cultivation ideas to the Development team. 
  • Serve as a strategic advisor for events-related opportunities across the organization, providing guidance and recommendations as requested for colleagues conducting their own events, as requested.
  • Contribute to the goal of expanding the Private Philanthropy and Partnership pipeline through an engagement strategy that helps acquire and retain donors through event participation. 
  • Miscellaneous projects and participation in working groups as requested.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • 5-7 years of related experience preferably in high touch donor/supporter stewardship, high touch event planning, major or planned giving; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • In lieu of education/degree requirements a successful candidate will:

  • Experience managing online events and leveraging virtual platforms successfully. 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and prioritize workflow. 
  • Keen understanding of donor motivations and drivers of a wide variety of donor types, and ability to match them to appropriate, targeted offerings. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including stewardship of high-level donors and volunteers; Demonstrates a high degree of customer service to internal and external clients. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to be a quick and eager learner who demonstrates proactivity and takes initiative.
  • Proficiency in using fundraising CRMs, Salesforce preferred, as well as Microsoft Office. 
  • Knowledge of international humanitarian issues and/or experience working in the refugee or development sector is desirable.
  • A passion for philanthropy and a commitment to the mission and values of USA for UNHCR.
  • Ability to travel frequently to staff events, as well as work extended hours during events. 

WORK LOCATION

Hybrid Washington, DC May also involve travel to some locations within the company’s region of operations and select donor locations.

COMPENSATION 

$93,986 - $112,783
