*** Length of volunteer assignment will be between June 10, 2024, to August 16, 2024. *** DIR’s high school volunteer opportunity, TechQuest: Empowering Future Innovators, is available only to students currently enrolled in high school, aged 16-18. Volunteer Summary

The TechQuest: Empowering Future Innovators high school volunteer program will provide valuable learning opportunities and exposure to different areas of the technology industry as outlined below:

  • Participate in IT meetings and discussions regarding technology and cybersecurity.
  • Assists with the setup of computers and other office equipment for employees; supports the installation of standard software; and help resolve common hardware, software, and network connectivity issues.
  • Shadows computer systems support work in a help desk setting.
  • Observing the implementation of Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) software.
  • Observes routine code and debugs software.
  • Participates in gathering requirements for agency applications.
  • Participates in cybersecurity incident detection analysis and prevention.
  • Shadows other programs as needed.
QualificationsEducation
  • Must be a current high school student between the ages of 16 to 18.
  • Must possess good standing high school academic records.
Qualifications
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cordial working relationships at all organizational levels, including agency management, direct supervisors, co-workers, internal and external customers.
  • Ability to understand, follow and convey brief oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to comply with all agency policy and applicable laws.
  • Ability to comply with all applicable safety rules, regulations, and standards.
Computer Skills
  • Proficiency in the use of a computer and applicable software necessary to perform work assignments e.g., word processing, spreadsheets (Microsoft Office preferred).
Other Requirements
  • Regular and punctual attendance at the workplace.
  • Criminal background check.
Working Conditions
  • Frequent use of computers, copiers, printers, and telephones.
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, listening, and talking.
