JOB IDENTIFICATION

Job Title: Group Fitness Instructor- Prairie Lakes

Grade: II-IV

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Department: Recreation

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Assistant Superintendant of Recreation and/or Membership Services Coordinator

BASIC FUNCTION

To conduct fitness classes in accordance with adopted guidelines, policies, and procedures of the Des Plaines Park District. The fitness Instructor will plan, organize and implement a variety of fitness classes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Conducts fitness classes in accordance with adopted guidelines, policies, and procedures set forth by the Des Plaines Park District
  2. Ensures facility and equipment are in good
  3. Offer a comprehensive balance of fitness training for all ages and interest areas of the community.
  4. Attend group fitness meetings, facility meetings, and park district meetings.
  5. Attend approved continuing education seminars and workshops.
  6. Engage, and initiate relationships with members.
  7. Adhere to established policies and procedures in instructing classes and small groups.
  8. Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with staff members, maintenance personnel, administrative personnel, and the general public.
  9. Maintains course attendance sheets for classes
  10. Assist guests in a professional manner. Provides information in response to public inquiries and directs specific inquiries to other staff as needed.
  11. Responsible to uphold the District’s commitment to safety, promptly reporting accidents and hazardous conditions to the supervisor, and complying with the District’s safety policies.

OTHER DUTIES

  1. Provide reasonable accommodations for participants and personnel in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  2. Attend professional conferences, seminars, workshops, and/or classes to remain current on trends and innovations in the field of parks and recreation.
  3. Direct patrons in the event of an emergency such as severe weather or fire
  4. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  5. Report maintenance needs as observed.
  6. Follow all safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Park District Safety and Crisis Manuals
  7. Perform additional duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred

Experience: 6 months – 3 years’ experience in instructing fitness classes or related fitness fields required.

Certifications: Requires one of the following certifications: ACE, NSCA, NASM, ACSM, or any other NCAA accredited certifications

First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required within 6 months
