Who We Are Looking For

First, Design Pickle is anything but typical. We’re a group of hard-working, creativity-loving individuals from around the world.

Do we love pickles, too? Most of us! But don’t stress if pickles aren’t your thing. It’s not a deal-breaker. We do look for a passion and interest in something, though, because our employees’ uniqueness is what helped make us the great company we are today.

We stand by our vision, purpose, and values, and these are mission-critical to how you show up every single day.

Specific to your role, we’re looking for individuals who have:

  • 10 years of software development experience with a significant focus on front-end technologies, alongside 7 years of professional experience as a software engineer in varied environments.
  • 6 years in technical leadership, directly managing development teams and overseeing large-scale projects with at least 3 years of experience in managing back-end technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Express.js, Spring, .NET.
  • Profound expertise in front-end technologies, with at least 3 years of experience using JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in deploying, configuring, and operating cloud-based solutions like AWS or Azure, alongside a solid understanding of analytics platforms such as DataDog, Tableau, Snowflake, Looker, Pendo, Amplitude, and Hotjar.
  • Hands-on experience in designing and operating critical high-scale systems that are highly available, scalable, and sustainable, reflecting a passion for the aesthetic and functional aspects of product development.
  • Strong familiarity with data platforms, including aspects such as modeling, metadata management, streams, persistence, enrichment, and access; adept at integrating ML/AI solutions for enhanced user personalization.
  • Expertise employing Agile methodologies, leading teams through agile processes and continuous delivery frameworks to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in project deliverables.
  • Experience managing globally distributed teams, demonstrating effective management of both full-time staff and vendors across different geographies and cultures.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential for managing remote teams and ensuring clear, consistent interactions across global projects—vital in a remote-first company.
  • Educational background: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, providing a solid foundation for complex problem-solving and innovation in software development.

Bonus Pickle Points:

  • In-depth experience with React application framework, experience with Ruby on Rails, and knowledge of Tailwind.
  • Comfortable working independently and with a 10 person development team.
  • Proven track record of building and/or improving company culture.
  • Exceptional written communication - we’re a remote-first company so effective communication is vital.
  • An astute eye for operational efficiency improvements.

Key Objectives and Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute directly to high-value frontend projects, blending your skills as a hands-on developer with your responsibilities as a manager. Your dual role will involve coding, architectural design, and problem-solving alongside your team, directly contributing to our key initiatives.
  • Develop and lead a high-performing frontend engineering team by excelling in recruitment, coaching, mentoring, and personal example. Cultivate a team culture that values both individual accountability and collective success, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Champion the evolution of our product architecture with a hands-on approach, focusing specifically on frontend technologies. Implement innovative design patterns and frameworks that enhance user interfaces, ensuring that architectural decisions are aligned with user engagement and business goals.
  • Deliver exceptional products that meet rigorous standards of quality, security, and reliability, driving innovation and execution of roadmap features. Your direct involvement in development ensures that projects not only meet technical standards but also deliver substantial user and business value.
  • Set and uphold stringent standards for performance and availability, involving yourself in the development and monitoring processes. Integrate engineering practices like CI/CD and comprehensive code reviews to boost productivity and align with strategic outcomes.
  • Own and manage the engineering infrastructure, optimizing frontend operations while also contributing to DevOps practices that enhance efficiency and security.
  • Provide strategic insights into engineering resource allocation to the Product leadership team, balancing your managerial perspective with hands-on technical insights.
  • Foster a results-focused and highly engaged team environment where both you and your team members are proactive problem-solvers. Your leadership by example in both management and individual contributions will drive initiatives that enhance performance, availability, and user value.

The compensation range for this position is $170,000 to $190,000 annually. The actual salary offer made to a candidate will be made with mindful consideration of a wide range of factors.
