GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for assisting in directing and controlling the operation of the Landfill Division. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Landfill Director. Field Supervisor is assigned employees and equipment as part of a team approach to accomplish Landfill tasks. The Field Supervisor serves as the leader of this squad and is directly responsible for accomplishing the tasks assigned in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Participates in and helps supervise and coordinate and performs actual work in the field of activities essential to the Landfill, maintenance and repair of working face, side slopes, down drains, ground keeping, etc. and other work normal to the Landfill operation.

2. Helps plan and prepares work schedule and assigns work to various crews. Responsible for seeing assigned tasks are performed and that work schedules are maintained.

3. Assists in ensuring adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.

4. Coordinates activities to maintain safety and traffic control at work sites, including flagging of traffic and setup of safety cones, barricades and warning signs.

5. Prepares and completes various forms, reports, performance appraisals, accident reports and daily activity logs.

6. Responds to complaints and questions related to department activities. Research problem and provides information, formulates and initiates action to correct problem/issue.

7. Provides direction, training and assistance to employees under his supervision.

8. Reports accidents, injuries and other incidents.

9. Troubleshoots problem situations.

10. Operate one or more related pieces of equipment common to the crew and performs the tasks of assistant operation manager of subordinating positions as necessary.

11. Responds to emergencies as required and may be required to work additional days and hours as needed.

12. Performs all other duties as assigned.

13. Available for work before, during, and after natural disasters for service to the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Knowledge of the methods, practices, procedures, equipment and materials applicable to the construction, maintenance and repair of the Landfill working face, side slopes and washouts as well as other related work performed by the division.

· Knowledge of the components, parts, operating principles and maintenance needs of equipment.

· Ability to prepare work schedules, assigns, plan out and supervise the work of several work crews sufficient to obtain a good level of efficient production.

· Ability to use survey equipment for line and grade.

· Ability to prepare accurate reports. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

· Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.

· Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.

· Ability to lift and carry more than 45 pounds for extended periods of time.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent; five (5) years’ experience in the operation and routine maintenance of three or more pieces of construction equipment at Landfill. Supervisory experience preferred but not required. Leadership is mandatory, specifically leadership by example. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, integrity and stability to learn are all essential. Final decision of appointment to this job will be based on applicant's ability to physically operate, drive and perform the illustrated tasks described herein.

Special Qualifications:

Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License, Class "A" with air brakes, an acceptable driving record is required. Will accept preparation of a CDL permit with the ability to obtain a CDL in 90 days.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

Work is medium work which requires the ability to lift and carry more than 45 pounds. Employees must have acceptable eyesight, the ability to drive motor vehicles and the ability to communicate orally.

· Trunk Strength – The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without ‘giving out’ or fatiguing.

· Multi-limb Coordination - The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.

· Gross Body Coordination - The ability to coordinate the movement of your arms, legs, and torso together when the whole body is in motion.

· Reaction Time - The ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when t appears.

· Spatial Orientation: the ability to know where other objects are in relation to vou.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Work is performed primarily outside in various weather conditions with noise, dust, dirt, fumes, gases, chemicals, oils, uneven and slippery surfaces, poor lighting. Must be able to work at different heights, below ground level, in and around equipment and in traffic and hazardous conditions.
