We are currently seeking a Certified Special Ed English/Social Studies Teacher for the 2024-2025 Academic School year with teaching experience. Our classroom structure is designed to match students needs. Through an interdisciplinary approach, an individual plan is designed for each student. You will plan and implement therapeutic instructional programs for individuals served on campus who are living with emotional, mental and behavioral health challenges, under the direct supervision of the Principal.
Devereux Ackerman Academy is a school serving students in grades 6-12. Ackerman Academy is accredited by Cognia (Formerly AdvancED). We provide a stimulating educational environment for children and youth while they are receiving the highest level mental health treatment. Our education personnel are highly qualified and certified by Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Many of our faculty and staff have multiple certifications to include Special Education and other content areas. Qualifications:EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree preferred. GAPSC Certification - Certified Teacher in the field of English Middle required.
EXPERIENCE: Experience teaching English/Language Arts, as well as other various content (Math, Social Studies, Science preferred); Grades 6 - 12. Experience with Positive Behavioral Intervention and support strategies preferred. Previous experience working with children/adolescents with psychological, emotional and behavioral disorders, co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders, and/or conduct disorders preferred.
Other qualifications:
Valid Driver's License and Satisfactory Drug Screen and Background Check results.
Devereux requires all individuals interviewing for a position involving contact with children to complete The Diana Screen, a screening that assesses a candidates understanding of appropriate boundaries between adults and children.
