Summary:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The activity coordinator shall be responsible for providing a full range of activities coordination including assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions in a manner consistent with the positions qualifications, professional practices, and ethical standards. The activity coordinator shall provide activity coordination both independently and in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team. The activity coordinator shall also demonstrate accountability for and contribution to program development, quality improvement, problem solving, and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High School Graduate/GED
  • Successful completion of an appropriate training course leading to certification as a patient activity coordinator or company approved orientation
  • CPR certification required
  • CPI training within 30 days of hire date
  • Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
  • Organizational skills is necessary
  • Good written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
  • Prefer hospital experience

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :

  • Three - five (3-5) years experience in a health care setting strongly preferred.
  • Requires strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
  • Experience in working in a health care setting is necessary; experience with adult/geriatric population and/or experience serving people with physical disabilities is desirable.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices
  • Facilitate the use of leisure, recreation and wellness opportunities as a way of enriching health and well-being.
  • Evaluate patients for participation in appropriate activities
  • Maintain patient safety during all activities
  • Provide one-to-one activity for those patients not physically or emotionally able to tolerate group activities
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning
  • Provide at least two therapeutic group activities daily on each Behavioral Unit
  • Document patient involvement in each activity provided
  • Provide information to patient and family at discharge regarding recreational and social opportunities in the community.
  • Treats assigned patients under direction of the CTRS and as outlined in the treatment plan.
  • Reports progress, changes or problems to the CTRS immediately.
  • Assists CTRS with assessment; obtains and sets up necessary equipment, transports patients and helps with the assessment process of patients under the direct supervision of the CTRS as needed.
  • Identifies when adaptive equipment supplies are low, makes new devices under direction of the CTRS and ensures proper labeling of equipment for patient.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team process.
  • Reports to team manager or appropriate nurse or therapist all progress or problems the patient is experiencing regardless of the focus.
  • Provides ongoing education to patient and family as needed.
  • Regularly reinforces patient education carried out by CTRS.
  • Provides resources and support for patients before during and after treatment of patient.
  • Checks all equipment regularly to remove dust and dirt to restore to bright finish.
  • Completes general cleaning of therapy areas as assigned and or according to cleaning schedule using prescribed cleaning techniques for infection control.

B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
