OverviewPlan, organize, and implement extensive safety and development training for California Class A licensed drivers of combination vehicles in an LTL P&D environment. Conduct and oversee safety-oriented training programs, utilizing technology to uphold and enhance safety standards, improve safe driving techniques, and strengthen customer service skills among drivers. This role is essential in promoting a culture of safety, development, and morale, supporting the needs and growth of Class A licensed driver employees. Responsibilities
Responsible for assisting, supporting and coaching Drivers with on road safety behaviors and expectations.
Act as a mentor and role model for drivers, promoting a culture of safety and professionalism.
Leads and personally conducts the daily safe driving coaching events generated by telematics system.
Utilize training software and other technological tools to enhance training effectiveness.
Partner with HR to conduct interviews for new drivers while contributing a contributory role at ensuring the most safety conscientious driver team possible.
Designs, Implements, conducts and/or oversees elements of an authorized driver training program.
Assesses driver trainees’ abilities to meet acceptable standards per both DOT and OSHA safety regulations by making recommendations and executing on Driver specific training needs.
Teach and Coach each step of a thorough Pre & Post trip inspections.
Performs probationary observations of drivers, including observation reports.
Remains abreast of local service center safety scorecards and scorecard performance and is responsible for its continuous improvements.
Performs regular planned, and un-planned, observations, “ride along” and assists drivers with concerns and makes suggestions for improvement through coaching.
Assists in implementing refresh retraining for drivers.
Takes primary lead on all service center pre-employment and annual refresh road tests ensuring a Driver’s full ability to safely operate company vehicles in the public.
Be willing to substitute drive and perform as a P&D Driver, as needed.
May attend training sessions, meetings, and workshops as required for the betterment and development of Daylight Transport.
Investigate and analyze accidents or safety incidents involving drivers.
Communicate necessary information regularly to students and colleagues regarding student progress and student needs.
Manage student driver behavior in the classroom and while on the road by enforcing rules and procedures of DOT.
Provides on-route ‘lead by example’ training with all Drivers where the Driver Trainer demonstrates all best practice safety activities and will, also, coach on customer service, sales and administrative tasks of a P&D Driver.
Periodically conduct safety observations in the workplace.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date training records, training activities, driver progress, and any incident or issues that arise during training.
Collaborate with and support the operations team by providing feedback, addressing concerns, and identifying areas for improvement.
