Are you ready to take ownership of a dynamic and growing estimating department? My client is looking for a Chief Estimator to join their team. Let’s break down the key responsibilities and qualifications for this position:

Job Description

  • Establish and enforce estimating processes.
  • Lead and mentor the estimating team, ensuring a collaborative environment and managing individual performance.
  • Coordinate with other company departments to enhance efficiency.
  • Manage estimating functions, including project identification, staff scheduling, and contributing to winning strategies.
  • Implement value engineering strategies.
  • Own the company bid schedule, prioritizing resources.
  • Review cost elements of bids and negotiate with contractors and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with finance and heavy shop departments to establish accurate equipment and labor costs
  • Recruit, hire, train, and retain estimating staff.
  • Promote cross-training to build a versatile team.
  • Analyze bidding risks and devise competitive advantage strategies.
  • Evaluate major takeoff risks and implement solutions.
  • Mitigate risk based on contract language and operational requirements.

Estimating & Bidding:

  • Prepare complete bid packages for complex heavy civil projects.
  • Understand general expenses and finalize costs.
  • Analyze data for accurate project cost estimation.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and site conditions.
  • Ensure timely bid submissions and compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience as a Construction Estimator or related field.
  • Proven ability to prepare accurate and competitive construction bids.
  • Strong understanding of heavy civil construction materials and methods.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., HCSS Heavy Bid, Agtek, Blue Beam, P6, Office 365).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Complete comprehension of relevant drawings and specifications.
