The Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial concrete projects. This role requires a thorough understanding of concrete construction techniques, materials, and industry standards. The Estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure that all estimates are comprehensive and reflect current market conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

Cost Estimation:

  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates for commercial concrete projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to determine project requirements.
  • Utilize estimating software to create detailed and accurate estimates.
  1. Bid Preparation:
  • Prepare and submit competitive bid proposals for commercial concrete projects.
  • Review bid documents and specifications to ensure all aspects of the project are considered in the estimate.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to gather information and clarify project requirements.

Quantity Takeoffs:

  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs from project drawings and specifications.
  • Identify and quantify all materials and labor required for the project.
  • Ensure that takeoffs are comprehensive and reflect the scope of work.

Market Research and Pricing:

  • Conduct market research to stay updated on material costs, labor rates, and industry trends.
  • Obtain pricing from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive and accurate estimates.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to secure favorable pricing and terms.

Client and Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Work closely with clients, project managers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and expectations.
  • Provide cost-saving recommendations and value engineering options to meet client budgets without compromising quality.
  • Present and explain estimates to clients and address any questions or concerns.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of all estimates, including assumptions, methodologies, and pricing data.
  • Prepare detailed cost analysis reports and summaries for internal review and client presentation.
  • Track and document changes in project scope that impact cost estimates.

Risk Analysis and Mitigation:

  • Identify potential risks and uncertainties in the estimation process and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate the impact of project changes on cost estimates and recommend adjustments as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the project team to identify and address any cost-related risks or issues.

Budget Development and Cost Management:

  • Assist in the development of project budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor project costs and provide input on cost control measures.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives in the estimating process.
  • Stay informed about advancements in concrete construction techniques and materials.
  • Provide training and support to team members on estimating practices and tools.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating for commercial concrete projects.
  • Proficiency in estimating software, such as ProEst, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of concrete construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex information to clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Certification as a Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or equivalent is preferred.
