Dieterich Bank is looking for a Red Bud High School Co-Op student for the 2024-2025 school year. The student would fulfil a part-time Retail Banker role.

Objective :

Retail Bankers are the frontline representatives, and therefore the face of Dieterich Bank within the communities we serve.

This essential, sales and service-oriented role is responsible for business development and enabling Dieterich Bank customers to make informed choices, solve problems, and improve their financial well-being.

Essential Duties :

Provide the highest level of quality service to customer and perform customer requested service in a friendly, positive, professional manner.

Assess the unique needs of customers using consultative methods.

  • Demonstrate understanding of products and capabilities, educating customers on adequate product fit and alternative service delivery methods.
  • Identify and act on opportunities to refer customers to specialists in other lines of business, or other departments of the Bank as appropriate.
  • Adhere to Bank policies and procedures as well as industry regulations. Maintain safety and security of branch.
  • Demonstrate the ability to independently make sound decisions based upon Bank policies, knowledge, and experience.
  • Exercise good judgment and being alert to possible fraud.
  • Respond positively to both peer and management feedback and coaching.
  • Maintain workstation equipment and other office equipment.
  • Manage multiple tasks and respond to pressure and change with poise and confidence.
  • Assist other branches as needed for staffing which may include travel.
  • Recognize customer needs and potential sales opportunities.
  • Relate well to customers and co-workers in an atmosphere of mutual respect without exhibiting behavioral extremes and be able to respond appropriately to direction and constructive criticism from a supervisor.
  • Provide exceptional customer care in an expedient manner that satisfies individual needs of each customer and builds loyalty to Dieterich Bank.
  • Open and close customer accounts such as checking, savings, CD's, and IRA's while following the proper bank new account opening procedures / checklist, bank loss prevention guidelines and check cashing procedures.

Obtain and verify authorizations, and signatures, and verify calculations.

  • Act as the go-to-person for new account inquiries and processes.
  • Fully utilize the systems, tools, training, and resources provided to maximize potential.
  • Process transactions for individual / business clients, which include : receiving and paying out money through deposits and withdrawals, processing payments, payoffs, cashing checks and paying out money, processing cash advances and, redeeming savings bonds, and preparing the purchase of other items such as official checks and gift cards.

Issue computer generated receipts for transactions. Place holds when appropriate.

  • Assist in opening and closing the branch, verifying weekly currency shipments, maintaining appearance of branch, assisting others with balancing their drawers and locating errors, and balancing the branch ATM and vault when appropriate.
  • Balance drawer daily and ensure that cash is accounted for. When not in balance must make an effort to identify error. In addition, ensure cash drawer is secure and locked.
  • Promote sales and service of all retail deposit products and services.
  • Maintain confidentiality of customer and employee information.

Secondary Duties :

  • Promote Dieterich Bank within the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Must possess excellent communication skills. Consultative skills to identify a client's financial needs. In addition, must be able to communicate with customers well on a daily basis face-to-face or by telephone.
  • Proofread and verify written materials. In addition, read and process written and numerical information
  • Relationship management skills
  • Maintain accuracy by remaining detail focused consistently, and have the ability to organize efficiently
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must demonstrate ethical conduct
  • Time management skills

Work Schedule :

This position will vary based on need. Travel to various branches may be necessary to fill in.

Education and Experience :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate Degree in business or related field preferred.
  • 3 years of banking experience
