Employment Terms: 12-Month Full-time Position (260 Contracted Days)
Grade: L/G12
Position SummaryProvides troubleshooting and technical assistance for DCPS technology and equipment.

  • Provides direct services to school system personnel in the set-up, use, maintenance and repair of computer hardware, software and peripherals.
  • Provides workstation hardware and software technical support including peripherals such as printers and hand-held devices; researches and tests software and hardware.
  • Identifies and solves end-user questions and problems over the phone and on-site involving data access, e- mail and program application problems.
  • Installs, upgrades, repairs and replaces end user hardware and software applications; creates and maintains computer images; updates and troubleshoots compatibility issues.
  • Creates, modifies and repairs user accounts, passwords and computer permissions. Works with Information Resource Technology teachers as needed.
  • Performs Chromebook support, including software updates and hardware replacement.
  • Prepares and maintains records and files; prepares trouble tickets and follow up documentation. Follows up with customers on status.
  • Contacts hardware and software vendors for repair and troubleshooting issues; works with other technology staff to solve complex problems.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs audio/video systems and VOIP phone issues.
  • Provides computer support for CDI Head Start; installs, upgrades, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains computer hardware, software and peripherals.
  • Able to respond to inquiries on the phone, via email, in person or through remote access.
  • Shares techniques and best practices in a friendly and supportive way.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology.

Qualifications, Education And Experience
  • Associates/Technical degree with coursework in IT, computer science, or related field required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Moderate experience troubleshooting, installing and maintaining computer hardware, software and peripherals.
  • Experience with desktop support to include Chromebooks and/or laptops.
  • General knowledge of the operation, uses and capabilities of electronic data processing main and peripheral equipment.
  • General knowledge of hardware and software installation, maintenance and repair.
  • General knowledge of network administration practices and techniques.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software packages, hardware and peripherals.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to recognize and assess maintenance and repair needs.
  • Able to work efficiently as part of a team or independently.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Physical Requirements
  • This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force such as computers, copiers, printers, projectors, smart TVs, smart boards, etc.
  • Work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires walking, speaking or hearing and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions
  • Work requires close vision, distance vision, color perception and peripheral vision
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities
  • Work frequently requires exposure to the risk of electrical shock and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places and exposure to extreme heat (non-weather)
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
  • Must be mobile enough for frequent traveling to and from schools and facilities inside and outside the school division.
Special Requirements
  • May require the ability to acquire a valid driver’s license to operate division-owned/leased motor vehicles. Driving record will be subject to periodic review, and must be acceptable in accordance with the provisions of the Dinwiddie County School Board’s policy manual.
  • All candidates must successfully undergo the following pre-employment screenings:

    • Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation
    • State Police Criminal History Investigation
    • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)/National Criminal History Investigative Search
