Position Description

Job Title: Director of Music

Job Status: Full-Time

FLSA: Exempt

Reports to: Pastor

Job Summary: The director would recruit and train volunteers for our music ministries. The director should be able to assist all those who sing in vocal technique and training.

The key responsibilities would be as follows:

• Accompanist for three of the four liturgies each weekend.

• Accompanist for the weekly school liturgy each Friday (during the school year).

• Assign and train leaders of songs for each of the weekend liturgies.

• Plan and prepare the liturgies for each weekend.

• Accompanist for parish funerals.

• Accompanist and planner for parish weddings.

• Plan music and rehearse with our choirs weekly from September through the Solemnity of Corpus Christi:
  • Traditional Choir
  • Contemporary Choir
  • Adult Bell Choir
  • Children's Bell Choir
  • Children's Choir
  • School Choir

• Additional responsibilities would be Penance Services, Holy Day liturgies, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, School Graduation.

• Programs are prepared by music director for Christmas, Holy Week, Confirmation and First Holy Communion.

• The director will schedule and lead the quarterly liturgy committee meetings.

Minimal Requirements:

• Bachelor of Arts degree in Organ Performance or Choral Directing, Liturgical Music, or an equivalent degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.

• Experience performing and directing music at the Catholic liturgy in a parish setting is preferred.

Other Requirements:

• Due to the nature and mission of the Catholic Church, all employees are bound to exhibit respect for the teachings and discipline of the Church regarding matters of faith and morals, including maintaining a lifestyle that is in conformity with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

• Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (at least 1 year old.) As well as attendance at a Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to play musical keyboards, direct music, type, handle, feel, or operate objects or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Indoors; noisy environment while playing the piano/organ and during choir rehearsals and performances, and in a moderately quiet office setting.

This is a salaried position. The salary would be commensurate with skills, education, and experience. The music director will be entitled to healthcare benefits. Weddings and funerals are additional stipends.
