Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux is Hiring a Maintenance/ Custodian Near Houma, LA
Maintenance/ CustodianThis is a part-time position that will report to the Pastor. The Maintenance/ Custodian will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the church property. This position will also be responsible for ensuring that all buildings and rooms are kept in a clean and orderly condition.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:(other duties may be assigned)
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum the church and office buildings.
- Vacuum and dust all window seals, shelving, and baseboards in the upstairs and downstairs classrooms.
- Perform landscaping duties involving cutting the grass, edging, and weed eating the bushes and leaf air blowing all outside areas.
- Ensure that all trash is picked up and properly disposed of on the church property.
- Sweep garage and closet areas.
- Pressure wash call cement areas.
- Rake, collect, and throw away leaves during fall.
- Weed eat crape myrtle trees, trim all hedges and trees by the sacristy and on the side yard of the Church, and clean out flower beds and shrubs.
- Ensures the parking lots are free from weeds by pulling and spraying weeds weekly.
- Clean all windows and glass on all buildings.
- Clean all A/C window units and ensure the filters are changed weekly.
- Prepare the inventory of needed supplies, ensure all toilet paper and paper products are stocked, and ensure gas, oil, and supplies for the lawn equipment are filled.
- Perform routines checks that all lawn equipment is functioning properly, and the oil is replaced in a timely manner.
- Dust and polish sacristy cabinet wood.
- Spraying pest control inside and outside of all buildings on church property.
- Clean all bathrooms before and funerals and ensure all supplies are prepped.
- Prepare the setup of all chairs and tables for functions and meetings.
- Change lightbulbs when needed.
- Assist the Youth Formation Coordinator with movement and placements of chairs, tables, and other furniture in the school buildings.
- Ensure the Paschal Candle and Palls are in place for funerals.
- Pick up Paten and Chalice and turn off all lights after Mass is the Deacon is not available.
- Serve as back up to cleaning and vacuuming the church if the Lady’s Altar Society is not available.
- Conduct a monthly check of all emergency lights, exits, and fire extinguishers to ensure all are up to date and functioning properly.
- Assist other maintenance worker in the hanging of Banners, decorations, coordination of church parish functions for the seasonal holidays.
- Responsible for paining the handicap and parking lot markers and areas of all building on the church property that need touch-ups.
- Ensure that the Holy Water is filled and there is ample supply.
- Perform basic repairs as needed including but not limited to: maintenance of doors, handles, fix/ replace Ballasts or convert those to LED, and repair pews and kneelers.
- Maintain a well-kept yard/lawn and a neat garden of the rectory.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.
QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- General maintenance experience preferred.
- Must be able to successfully complete Safe Environment training.
- Must have driver’s license with good driving record.
- Ability to conduct one-self with a professional attitude and manor.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive situations and documents/ records.
- Knowledge of Catholic Church and its teachings and values.
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to communicate clearly by phone, in written form including email, and verbally to staff members and parishioners.
- Must be able to multi-task and set priorities.
- Must be able to regularly walk, stand, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders/ stairs for long periods of time.
- Ability to operate handheld tools, power tools and equipment, and measuring devices.
- Must be able to perform strenuous activities, lift and/or move between 75lbs-100lbs.
