General Summary:
The Regional Maintenance Technician will provide oversight of the general upkeep and building maintenance of diocesan Early Learning Center (ELC) buildings and their infrastructure, and other facilities or projects, as assigned, to ensure facilities are always safe and functional. Maintenance Technicians manage technical repairs such as door hardware repair or replacement, inspecting and performing regular maintenance on HVAC systems alongside aesthetic maintenance like applying paint touch-ups, and spot-cleaning facility grounds. In addition, this role is responsible for routine maintenance and emergency repairs to prevent and resolve safety or comfort issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversees maintenance activities of facilities infrastructure services including (but not limited to) building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, stormwater, security, and groundskeeping.
  • Confers with leadership, consultants, contractors, vendors, and staff to resolve maintenance problems.
  • Provides regular progress updates to diocesan leadership.
  • Communicates and coordinates preventative maintenance programs. Drives continuous improvement of preventative maintenance programs.
  • Assists ELC Directors and the Director of Real Estate Planning and Property Development in preparing department budget.
  • Regularly monitors all areas of the ELC and evaluates operational risks, cost improvements, and maintenance checklists with the Director of Real Estate Planning and Property Development and ELC staff. Follows all safety rules and regulations. Brings safety concerns to the attention of the supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting all work completed by outside vendors.
  • Addresses plumbing issues such as leaks, clogs, or other drainage problems; changes out faucets, and other minor plumbing issues.
  • Inspects and performs regular maintenance on HVAC systems.
  • Addresses electrical issues within skill level or seeks permission from supervisor for an outside contractor.
  • Utilizes carpentry skills and know-how to handle basic repairs around the building.
  • Installs new equipment and oversees building upgrades according to supervisor requests and to preserve the facility.
  • Pays great attention to detail and workmanship to ensure that all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with employees or visitors to the building in a pleasant manner and is ever cognizant of the security and safety of others, especially in active work zones and projects.
  • Works in cooperation with diocesan leaders, directors, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Serve as a key staff resource for the ELC administration.
  • Uphold the strictest professional and ethical standard and act in the best interest of the Diocese of St. Augustine.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • The ability to respect, promote, accommodate, and not conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic Church
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience, in construction, building maintenance, property or facilities operations, infrastructure, vendor, and contractor management.
  • Must consistently demonstrate a positive, friendly, respectful, and caring attitude with colleagues, the public, and all one serves in word and deed, projecting a welcoming atmosphere to all who visit the ELCs or other assigned facilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex topics to a wide range of individuals. Explain diocesan procedures to entity stakeholders, consultants, and vendors.
  • Ability to review facilities surveys and procedures with entity staff to identify process improvement of needed maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to provide support, through consultation and oversight, to diocesan staff on major maintenance and repair projects.
  • Ability to provide one’s own personal hand tools. Power tools will be provided.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal background checks, an MVR review, and attendance in diocese-required training prior to employment and must maintain satisfactory background checks.
COMMUNICATION AND COMPUTER SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of leadership, vendors, employees, and the general public. Must have average computer skills, including aptitude with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job:
Employees are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical equipment and machinery.
Employees are occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals though all necessary PPE is provided.
Employees will follow OSHA guidelines and immediately report any work-related injury.
Employees are exposed to noise levels that are generally moderate; the office area is quiet, and some areas of the facilities or construction sites are loud.
TRAVEL
Travel limited to the Early Learning Centers, Diocese Administration Buildings, and other facilities as assigned, in Northeast Florida. Must have a valid state issued driver’s license.
