Dircks Moving & Logistics is seeking a CDL Driver who plays a crucial role in transporting goods and performing various labor-related tasks associated with moving and logistics operations. Their ability to safely and efficiently move goods from one location to another is crucial for the success of the businesses they work for and the satisfaction of their customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Driving Commercial Vehicles: Class A CDL drivers must be qualified to operate a wide range of commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, semi-trucks, and other large vehicles commonly used in the moving and logistics sectors.
  • They must adhere to safety regulations and drive these vehicles with care.
  • Loading and Unloading: Depending on the specific assignment, CDL drivers may be involved in loading and unloading goods onto and off of their trucks. This may require the use of equipment like pallet jacks, forklifts, or hand trucks. This may also include pad wrapping, strapping, and securing items to be transported.
  • Responsible for distributing weight evenly, forming compact loads, and properly utilizing space.
  • Transporting Goods: The primary duty of a CDL driver is to transport goods from one location to another. This often involves long-haul transportation, regional deliveries, or local distribution, depending on the company's needs.
  • Route Planning: CDL drivers are responsible for planning their routes efficiently to ensure timely deliveries while optimizing fuel consumption and minimizing travel time.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Drivers are required to perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as conducting pre-trip inspections, checking for mechanical issues, and ensuring that their vehicles are in safe working condition.
  • Documentation: Keeping and accurately completing records of deliveries, BOLS, inventories, weight tickets, logs, and any incidents or maintenance performed on the vehicle is crucial for compliance with industry regulations.
  • Customer Interaction: In the moving and logistics industries, CDL drivers often have direct contact with customers. They must maintain a professional and customer-friendly demeanor when interacting with clients during deliveries or pickups.
  • Compliance: CDL drivers must adhere to all federal and state regulations, including hours of service (HOS) requirements, weight limits, and safety standards. They may also need to obtain endorsements for specific cargo types, such as hazardous materials (Hazmat).
  • Safety: Safety is a top priority for CDL drivers. They are required to obey all federal and state laws and regulations. Follow company safety programs.
  • Teamwork: In some cases, CDL drivers may work as part of a larger team of movers or logistics personnel.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with colleagues are essential to ensure the smooth flow of operations.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License, maintain a passing DOT physical and maintain a clean MVR per Dircks
insurance carrier guidelines.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with
problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office word processing software,
as well as Cisco phone systems.
