Distant Lands Coffee is Hiring a Plant Manager Near Tyler, TX

POSITION SUMMARY:

Oversee management of all areas of Manufacturing, Warehouse & Distribution, and Purchasing to produce products and direct activities so that approved products are shipped on-schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives.

KEY DUTIES:

  • Assist company officers, senior staff members and managers in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives.
  • Develop the manufacturing plan and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
  • Achieve optimum employee levels with least amount of overhead and raw material costs to meet annual budgetary plan.
  • Formulate and recommend manufacturing, distribution and purchasing policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
  • Direct and monitor department managers to accomplish goals of the manufacturing plan, consistent with established manufacturing and safety procedures. Inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.
  • Hire, train, develop and evaluate staff. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Consult with Human Resources Department as appropriate.
  • Identify, recommend and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data. Direct the establishment, implementation and maintenance of production standards.
  • Direct and coordinate various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g., food safety, quality, GMP standards, training, safety, S&OP planning, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.).
  • Initiate and manage major projects, (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.).
  • Work effectively and relate well with others. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • Keep current on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
  • Develop and implement freight tracking tools to manage business segment logistics.
  • Primary driver of reporting strategies for Operations.
  • Update costing system (production labor and overheads) on an as needed basis to ensure accurate absorption of production costs each month.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.
  • Develop key managers to become more efficient, effective, and take on more responsibility.

  • Technical skills in Lean Manufacturing techniques, Process Improvement, freight and distribution, materials management and production scheduling.

  • Strong ability to determine purchasing strategies and negotiate value added programs with supplier partners.
  • Strong understanding of MRP systems and impact of planning data on customer service levels, production costs, inventory carrying costs, freshness, and warehouse space allocation.
  • Strong project management skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in industrial, mechanical or business administration, or a 4-year technical degree in related discipline; or equivalent education/experience in the manufacturing field.
  • Computer proficient.
  • Experience working with manufacturing based technology, processes and principles is preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $95,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
