Distributed Solar Development is Hiring a Sr. Pre-Construction Project Manager Near NA, NY

The Sr. Pre-Construction Project Manager will assist the Pre-Construction team and serve as the project manager during the pre-construction phase of DSD solar projects awarded. The Project Manager will have extensive field level construction, project take-off, estimating and project management experience as it relates to the construction of solar and energy storage projects in the US solar industry with a willingness to prepare projects for construction while not being engaged after mobilization. The candidate for this role will be a collaborative team player with exceptional communication skills and can work autonomously and self-directed. This position will report to the Director of Pre-Construction.

Essential Responsibilities: As the Project Manager, you will manage the estimating and execution for the design and build out of commercial solar projects with a focus on the following aspects:

  • Manage project from award to construction handoff from a constructability standpoint.
  • Review RFP docs, PPA contracts, Client Requirements for project cost and schedule considerations.
  • Prepare schedules for all projects from pre-award to project handoff.
  • Prep and execute EPC work authorizations and work with construction team on long lead item orders.
  • Work with development, origination, engineering estimating and EPC to understand and define scope, all costs, schedules and contract parameters.
  • Work with department leads to incorporate project site visits for EPC’s, construction manager, client representative (local site personnel).
  • Work with department leads, project coordination and estimating to build bid packages, collate bids and EPC selection, strategy, and relationships.
  • Work with estimation team to incorporate all placeholders and project variables to finalize budget and present to business as appropriate for contract/work authorization execution. Work with development and origination to understand development costs, fees and utility costs.
  • Review valuation based on project inputs and understand hurdle levels based on previous budgets and business standards.
  • Work with estimation team to provide visibility on up-to-date costs in DSD platforms and be able to effectively communicate schedule associated risks, outstanding development tasks and construction complications that can impact cost at DSD investment committee meetings.
  • Manage to multiple deadlines, included but not limited to internal, customer and third-party requirements.
  • Work with procurement, construction teams and EPC to identify early procurement items, project payment milestones for procurement and otherwise.
  • Work with estimation team to refresh cost estimates as needed.
  • Working with development, other stakeholders and department leads to update execution strategies and monitor schedule constraints based on what is currently being constructed in the field.
  • Regularly report to manager on project updates.
  • Develop new tools and collaborate on process improvement to increase the efficiency of DSD operations.

Qualifications/Requirements/Desired Characteristics:

  • Site level construction experience with a keen ability to leverage experience to advise design and development teams on overall constructability of the project.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills.
  • Project management experience in the solar industry.
  • Ability to work remotely, independently, be a self-starter and in calibration with multi-time zone colleagues.
  • General construction experience.
  • High level of project construction knowledge of solar and energy storage, design, and installation standards across all project types inclusive of subcontractor relationships.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management or related field with 7-10 years of experience or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated skills in project planning software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera, Estimating Software, Salesforce and Procore.)
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Project management, estimating or other experience in power generation industries.
  • Financial forecasting experience.
