District of Columbia Bar is Hiring a Program Specialist Near Washington, DC

Job Description

Job Description

The Program Specialist provides paralegal and administrative support in a wide range of matters related to the overall fulfillment of the mission of the Pro Bono Center’s clinics, resource centers at the D.C. Superior Court (and remotely), and other programs. The Program Specialist staffs the Landlord Tenant Resource Center, assists with telephone intakes for the full representation Advocacy & Justice Clinic, and occasionally staffs the Advice & Referral Clinic, Advocacy & Justice Clinic, and Consumer Law Resource Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supports the Advocacy & Justice Clinic to include: interviewing prospective clients by telephone, communicating case updates to prospective clients and Pro Bono Center staff, updating and closing cases, and recording case outcomes.

• Provides support at the Landlord Tenant Resource Center and Consumer Law Resource Center remotely or at D.C. Superior Court, serving as the first point of contact with all customers, and maintains records of services and conducts intakes.

• Provides on-site or remote support at the Advice & Referral Clinic and the Advocacy & Justice Clinic.

• Prepares program and grant reports and provides administrative support to Pro Bono Center programs.

• Updates and maintains the Pro Bono Center’s client, case, and volunteer data, and helps devise and implement system improvements.

• Coordinates and supports various other projects and responds to client requests on the Legal Information Help Line.

• Posts updates on LawHelp.org/DC and probono.net/dc.

• Staffs a potential Client Advisory Council/Committee, helping to coordinate meetings, oversee stipends, communicate with and recruit clients.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior relevant work experience.

• Ability to work evenings and weekends for a variety of Pro Bono Center clinics and events.

• Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Must be detail oriented and deadline driven. Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Must work well in a team environment and be able to interact with Bar members, volunteers, vendors, the public and Pro Bono Center and Bar employees.

• Must be able to interact with individuals with diverse backgrounds, including people impacted by poverty and people living with mental health challenges or disabilities, with patience and compassion.

• Must work well under pressure, exercise appropriate judgment and discretion, possess excellent organizational abilities, and able to manage several priorities in a day.

• Must be adaptable, creative, and self-motivated.

• Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree.

• Proficiency in Spanish or Amharic.
