DESCRIPTION OF POSITION 

The Licensed Practical Nurse is a fulltime position serving 5 schools in the Ocean Beach School District: Long Beach Elementary (PreK-2), Ocean Park Elementary (3-5), Hilltop Middle School (6-8) and Ilwaco High School (9-12) and Ocean Beach Options Academy (K-12). The district LPN works with and under the supervision of the Pacific County Health Department nursing staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current WA State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License (unencumbered)
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Support the health and safety of all students and meet compliance requirements
  • Consult with school personnel on student health issues, designing healthcare supports as needed, and systems for dispensing of medications as needed, including delegation of medication administration tasks and audit medication administration history for compliance
  • Assist in Regional School Nurse in performing nursing assessments.
  • Within LPN scope of practice and in accordance with district policies and procedures, provide nursing care to students.
  • Implement student health care plans and emergency plans as directed by the Regional School Nurse.
  • Collaborate and consult with the Regional School Nurse and other staff to identify and address school safety and
    environmental health needs.
  • Maintain accurate records pertaining to medication and treatment administration, immunizations, screening results
    and injury records.
  • Serve as an advocate for the health rights of students as a profession liaison between the school, family and health
    community.
  • Collaborate with the RSN to coordinate and implement mandated health screenings.
  • Collect health care services data.
  • Participate in health-promoting and prevention efforts.
  • Serve as a health liaison between the school, family, external providers, and community partners
  • Document student care administered as part of the student health plan
  • Collect health care and educational data provided for assigned students
  • Administer medications and treatments
  • Travel and provide direct health support when needed to multiple schools
  • Design and manage all healthcare documents for students, including Individual and Emergency Health Care Plans, Medical orders, and Medication Administration documents
  • Manage student immunization records and file WA State annual student immunization report
  • Coordinate and implement vision and hearing screenings across all schools and conduct a follow up regarding any vision and/or hearing referrals with student guardian(s)
  • Provide planning support to IEP and 504 managers regarding special education students with medical or health needs
  • Assess and address any existing inequities or gaps in the student health care system
  • Coordinate and complete concussion testing of all athletes and follow-up on injured students
  • Manage health room budget and supplies
  • Collaborate with county health department to ensure compliance of notifiable conditions and outbreaks
  • Collaborate with surrounding nurses and ESD Nurse Team
  • Other duties as assigned.

BENEFITS/COMPENSATION

  • Salary Range: $28 - $30 per hour DOE
  • Days: 215

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, or consistent with the subject being taught, but can be abnormally loud on occasion.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.

The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
