The Engineering team is seeking an ambitious individual to join us as a Regional Engineering Leader. This role offers the opportunity to lead a dynamic team and advance our firm’s integrated design culture.

Position Summary

As a Regional Engineering Leader , you will be responsible for managing all aspects of practice for Engineering within a region all the while living the firm's core values. Regional Engineering Leaders are responsible for leadership of all subdiscipline engineering departments including, mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering and possibly additional specialty subdisciplines. As part of our integrated design team, you create buildings that elevate the human experience through design. You will participate in the design process of building systems, including the preparation of detailed engineering design drawings and calculations.
This role encompasses overseeing the management and quality of Engineering deliverables, scope, fees, and coordination with the operations leader. Additionally, the Regional Engineering Leader holds responsibility for the financial health and development of discipline operations. Acting as the primary point of contact, they facilitate the coordination of integrated design team pursuits, proposals, fees, and interviews. Additionally, Regional Engineering Leaders actively engage in both inward-focused operations and outward-facing endeavors, which include marketing and business development efforts across multiple sectors.

Core Responsibilities

  • Co-report to Region Leader and Global Engineering Leader.
  • Identify regional issues requiring global solutions and elevate the Engineering forum and/or the Integrated Practice Forum.
  • Participate in the Engineering Forum and contribute to Forum initiatives and business planning activities.
  • Actively communicate to the region all relevant Forum activities and operational tools and protocols.

Manage Regional Engineering Team

  • Direct or coordinate activities of Engineering employees including assignment of duties, responsibilities, and projects.
  • Oversee or coordinate recruitment and hiring of Engineering employees to meet regional needs and growth targets.
  • Ensure all new employees, including both new hires and employees joining DLR Group via M&A receive a consistent onboarding experience.
  • Ensure Discipline Leaders identify skillsets and areas for improvement within their discipline.
  • Ensure staff have access to technical training, mentorship, and participate in the performance management process.

Manage Regional Engineering Team Outcomes

  • Ensure regional team follows DLR Group's Quality Assurance processes and that Quality Control reviews are completed for all projects.
  • Ensure regional team is aware, understands, and follows DLR Group's standards for all projects.
  • Coordinate with Regional Sustainability Forum Leader and High-Performance Design Leader in support of fulfilling our sustainability commitments on projects.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers by reviewing fees, workplans, schedules, and contracts.
  • Support Regional Operations Leader to balance staffing and workload to achieve target billable utilization for regional team.
  • Support all Regional Sector, Discipline, and Enterprise Forum Leaders to better achieve initiatives.
  • Support Regional BD Leaders during RFP processes, developing proposals, and participating in project interviews.
  • Actively engage in community and/or industry specific organizations that will build the DLR Group brand.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering in related construction industry
  • A minimum of (8) years of relevant industry experience
  • Professional Engineering licensure
  • Prior experience leading an Engineering team
  • Proven experience as an engineer designing systems on complex projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS Degree in Engineering
  • Experience and interest in sustainable building design
  • Working knowledge of Revit, VantagePoint, Planifi, and/or Lattice

The potential range for this role is $200,000 - $250,000 annually.
