DoorDash is Hiring a Leave Compliance and Escalation Specialist Near Tempe, AZ

About the TeamThe Leave Compliance and Escalation Specialist is a key member of the LOAA Team, nestled within the broader Benefits Operations/Total Rewards team. At Total Rewards, our mission is to support the People Team in attracting, developing, motivating, and retaining a diverse, productive, and passionate workforce that successfully grows the DoorDash business. Our focus is on enhancing operational efficiency and effectiveness, and we are looking for someone who shares this drive.
About the RoleWe are seeking a dedicated Leave Compliance and Escalation Specialist to join our Total Rewards Benefits team. This pivotal role involves mentoring leave administrators and coordinators and ensuring adherence to best practices and legal compliance, all without direct managerial responsibilities. You will maintain the highest standards of leave administration, ensuring compliance with internal SLAs and legal notification requirements. While the role may involve some day-to-day claims administration, the primary focus will be on coaching and mentoring our leave administrators and coordinators and handling challenging escalations. We are seeking a versatile, quick-thinking team member to join our Leave & Accommodation Team and support employees company-wide. This role is a full-time opportunity. You will report into the Leave of Absence Manager on our Total Rewards team in our People organization.
You're excited about this opportunity because you will…
  • Ensure the leave team adheres to best practices, including timeliness and response standards, quality coordination, and thorough documentation.
  • Oversee compliance of all leave processes with applicable federal, state, global regulations and internal policies, focusing on notification requirements and coordination.
  • Conduct comprehensive quality audits of leave cases to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Implement corrective actions, refine processes, and provide targeted training to address any identified issues, thereby continuously elevating the standards of the leave management practices.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Tier 3 leave and accommodation-related escalations.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to improve the skills and understanding of complex leave scenarios for leave administrators and coordinators.
  • Write detailed escalation reports and communications to facilitate effective resolution of complex cases while defining the defects/failures and outlining corrective action.
  • Collaborate with the Leave & Accommodation Manager, LOAA BPs, HR/ER, legal, and other departments to continuously improve the leave administration process.
  • Coordinate Complex Programs: Lead the evaluation and coordination of various programs during the employee leave process including but not limited to company-provided STD, LTD, and Paid Parental Leave as well as locally mandated programs. Apply your deep understanding of diverse leave types to ensure seamless integration and administration.
We're excited about you because…
  • You have 3-5 years of experience in Leave of Absence (LOA) and Accommodation management in multiple settings.
  • You possess proven experience in training and mentoring leave administration teams.
  • You possess advanced expertise in managing leave activities, encompassing not only state and federal job protections but also strategic oversight of accommodations.
  • You have a strong background in handling complex leave and accommodation cases, including conducting detailed case reviews and managing escalations.
  • You exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills and can effectively communicate complex information to various stakeholders.
  • You are adept at creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation and compliance records.
  • You have a track record of excellent judgment and the capability to make sound, independent decisions.
  • You're a strong multi-tasker with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively – you naturally focus on the right things and can seamlessly move between projects & tasks, without losing sight of what's important to do.
  • You're an outstanding communicator with sophisticated relationship-building skills. You are known for your ability to influence others, engage in meaningful dialogue, and navigate complex interpersonal dynamics.
Nice to haves:
  • Master's degree in Rehabilitation, Human Resources, or related field
  • Certification in Disability Management, Leave Management, or Rehabilitation Counseling
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems, Leave Management Platforms, and MS Office Suite
  • Previous experience with insourced leave and accommodation programs
