DORCHESTER COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS is Hiring a Transportation Specialist ($47,466+) Near Hurlock, MD

Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for the position of Transportation Specialist.
Duties(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)
  • Maintains excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Works under the direction of the Transportation Manager and the Transportation Coordinator.
  • Assists the Transportation Coordinator with both classroom and behind-the-wheel preservice instructional programs for school vehicle driver candidates.
  • Conducts pre-service training for bus assistants.
  • Assists the Transportation Coordinator to plan and conduct classroom in-service training for school vehicle drivers and bus assistants.
  • Explains and demonstrates safe school vehicle driving skills.
  • Conducts school vehicle driver evaluations as required by COMAR.
  • Participates in annual workshops under the auspices of the MSDE and other professional development opportunities.
  • Maintains files pertaining to Special Ed student transportation.
  • Executes all federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to student transportation.
  • Effectively plans and implements special needs bus routes.
  • Works with school staff to obtain the necessary information for special needs transportation.
  • Assists in yearly bus inspections.
  • Arranges substitute drivers and attendants for special needs routes.
  • Substitutes as a special needs driver or attendant when needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality as applicable to transportation matters.
  • Performs related work as required.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must complete the Maryland State Department of Education certification for driver instructor pursuant to COMAR 13A.06.07.
  • A valid CDL license with P and S endorsements from the Maryland MVA.
  • Ability to learn and use electronic equipment placed on buses including video, GPS, etc.
  • Must have minimum of three (3) years successful bus driving experience.
  • Be able to lift, move, and transport various objects weighting up to 75 pounds.
