Douglas County, NV is Hiring a Minden Town Maintenance Assistant (19 hours) Near Minden, NV

DESCRIPTION

This position is a 19 hour per week and does not include benefits.

This is a part-time position responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the care and maintenance of buildings, facilities and grounds.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates and schedules the rental of facilities with the public for events and activities; ensures proper setup of facilities; opens and closes facilities.
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and polishes floors; sweeps, vacuums and spot cleans carpeted areas.
  • Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork; dusts counters, window sills, window blinds and similar fixtures.
  • Empties, cleans and lines waste receptacles and disposes of trash.
  • Washes doors, windows, walls, ceilings, window blinds and furniture; polishes metalwork.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms; restocks restroom supplies as necessary.
  • Performs basic building repair work; may paint facilities and perform graffiti removal; maintains drinking fountains; clean and change light bulbs
  • Closes windows, turns off lights, and locks doors to secure buildings.
  • Reports the need for maintenance or repair of facilities to the appropriate supervisor; corrects or reports any fire or safety hazards and places barriers in public areas.
  • Inspects, cleans and maintains park grounds, athletic fields, campsites, paved areas and paths as required.
  • Maintains equipment, materials and supplies in proper condition.
  • Observes safe working practices, including maintaining storage areas in a safe condition.
  • Answers questions and provides standard information to the public.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.
  • Keeps basic records of work performed, time sheets, etc.
  • Maintains inventory of necessary supplies.
  • Maintain and promote town maintained plants, shrubs, trees, and grasses.
  • May assist town staff in basic road maintenance.
  • May perform Town commercial and residential trash collection as required.
  • Sets-up meeting rooms, sound equipment and rearranges furniture.
  • Drives a County motor vehicle to specified work sites.
  • Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
General lawn/plant care, maintenance and custodial experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of:

  • Basic plant husbandry techniques.
  • Proper cleaning methods and the safe usage of cleaning materials, disinfectants, custodial tools and equipment.
  • Use and minor maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Safety practices and equipment related to the work.
  • Basic shop mathematics.
  • Basic record keeping practices.
  • Basic techniques for dealing with the public.
  • Basic painting, plumbing, concrete and carpentry methods, tools and techniques.
Skill in:
  • Safely drive County motor vehicle to specified work sites for completion of tasks.
  • Using and performing basic maintenance on various hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Safely using hand tools and power equipment related to the work.
  • Understanding and following written and oral instructions.
  • Working without close supervision in standard work situations.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
  • Reading and interpreting standard plans, maps and instructions.
  • Preparing basic records and reports of work performed.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
  • Current Driver's License.
  • May require CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of date of employment.
  • OSHA 10 certification within six (6) months of date of employment.

Mobility to work in a typical shop or related maintenance setting, including operating typical trade equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle to various work sites; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work in confined or awkward spaces for an extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone.
Work is subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, electrical currents, gases, dust and noxious odors.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background/screening.

12 paid holidays per year. Generous paid leave accrual's including 96 hours sick annually, begin accruing 120 hours annual leave each year. The County has rich benefits plans to choose from: Preferred Provider (PPO) and Health Savings Account (HSA) with supplemental benefits to include: prescription plan, dental plan, vision, life insurance opportunities, cancer insurance, and disability insurance. Compensation
Douglas County's compensation system is based on Pay for Performance wherein employees are eligible for annual performance evaluations. The current structure consists of merit increases up to 3% on a qualifying employee's anniversary and Cost of Living Adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index during the first pay period of each fiscal year. The COLA will be up to 5% depending on the CPI each year. Additionally, eligible employees can be recognized for outstanding performance, above and beyond the call of duty, and receive additional compensation through the Recognition of Excellence Program.
