As an OSP Engineer at Douglas Fast Net, you will play a crucial role in planning and designing our network infrastructure to ensure the highest levels of performance and reliability for our customers.

POSITION PURPOSE: Design and modify DFN’s outside plant fiber optic network to maximize cost effectiveness and efficiencies in all aspects of growth, as well as maintain accurate prints and records of DFN’s outside plant assets and assignments. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and maintain overall OSP system design for new market areas and existing OSP network 
  • Prepare and maintain detailed assignment documents of fiber projects and communicate these with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Perform aerial plant engineering, including coordinating make-ready and pole loading analysis with vendors 
  • Perform underground fiber OSP design 
  • Use CAD design and GIS software to produce fiber designs and bill of materials 
  • Prepare permits related to ROW, Railroad, and DOTs 
  • Perform QC of construction prints 
  • Ensure as-builts are completed and accurate information is input into the system timely.
  • Ensure legal requirements are being met during network servicing area planning 
  • Provide input on best practices, permit processes, field construction methods, and telecom products. 
  • This job description covers the most crucial key and supplemental duties performed in the position, but does not include other occasional work, which may be similar, related to, or a logical assignment for the position. Other projects will be assigned as need. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field required 
  • Experience in outside plant design or FTTH design preferred
  • Experience and understanding of outside plant engineering and construction techniques 
  • Experience working with outside plant engineering in the following systems: AutoCAD, and or GIS software preferred. 
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic as this is a high productivity position with a large degree of autonomy.
  • Problem solving skills. 
  • Clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Professional appearance and customer service oriented. Ability to exercise good judgement, courtesy, patience and tact in public contact and problem resolution. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Able to meet physical demands with reasonable accommodations if necessary.
