Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio is Hiring a Volunteer Coordinator Near Columbus, OH

The Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio (DSACO) is a branch of ElevateDD that exists to support families, promote community involvement, and encourage a lifetime of opportunities for people with Down syndrome. We believe this can be achieved by providing families and people with Down syndrome with meaningful, convenient, and unique opportunities to discover independence and to celebrate their achievements. Our vision is for people with Down syndrome to achieve their fullest potential in an accepting and inclusive community. Position Overview:

Reporting directly to the Director of Marketing & Events, the Volunteer Coordinator will partner with all DSACO program & events team members on community outreach and the recruitment, screening, training, and placement of volunteers. A strong candidate for this role will establish an integrated program that coordinates volunteer support while creating an engaging experience for current and new volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partners with DSACO team members, committee, and other organizational stakeholders to develop opportunities for individual and group volunteers including but not limited to; volunteering at events, service on committees, and other volunteer leadership roles within the organization
  • Leads group volunteer projects on and offsite, providing education around DSACO’s programs and infusing learning and reflection into the volunteer experience
  • Maintains a list of current volunteer opportunities and descriptions
  • Responds to volunteer inquiries in a timely manner and provides ongoing follow-up communication with potential volunteers
  • Maintains communication with current volunteer groups and disseminates information and updates as needed
  • Coordinates the volunteer application process, including the intake of phone calls and background checks
  • Manages and tracks volunteer data including individual records and interactions
  • Utilizes creative and engaging strategies to proactively recruit volunteers.
  • Collaborates with DSACO team members to align volunteer interest with programmatic and strategic organizational needs
  • Develops annual volunteer recognition and appreciation events, including the “Extraordinary Volunteers” campaign
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Passion for the mission and vision of the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience and/or 2 to 3 years non-profit related experience
  • Positive attitude, creative outlook, and strong work ethic
  • Strong communication skills and outstanding ability to maintain and foster relationships across diverse groups
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with people with Down syndrome and their families
  • Must maintain clear and organized notes and documentation
  • Must complete all necessary background checks and other pre-hire requirements as set forth by the organization and according to state and federal rules and regulations
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases
  • Experience with online tools such as Canva, MailChimp, and Bloomerang is a plus
  • Experience working with volunteers, leading training, and/or event planning is a plus
  • Ability to travel locally and occasionally work after business hours or on weekends
  • Current, valid Ohio driver’s license and the ability to travel to various locations as needed
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality with personal information
  • Must be self-directed, action-oriented, innovative, and flexible

Interview Process:

Candidates who are selected to proceed after submitting a cover letter and resume will be provided with a short list of prompts, and asked for their written responses to those prompts. After that, successful candidates will be invited to our office to meet with 2-3 team members for an interview. The final step in the process is a brief phone conversation with the president and CEO.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week
