Position Title: Landscape Ambassador

Reports to: Shift Supervisor, Operations Manager, & Director of Maintenance Services

FLSA: Full-time (40 hours/week), Non-exempt (hourly) plus benefits

Salary: $26 per hour

Schedule: Day Shift (5:30 am to 2:00 pm)

Location: Downtown San Diego area

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, Director of Maintenance Services (DMS), Operations Manager (OM), and the Landscape Lead, Landscape Ambassadors will provide landscape and maintenance services within the Clean & Safe’s 275-block radius of Downtown San Diego. Neighborhoods within this radius include Cortez Hill, Columbia, Marina, City Center, East Village, and the Gaslamp Quarter. Every Landscape Ambassador is responsible for conducting landscaping services in these neighborhoods. Acting as the eyes and ears for their neighborhood and the Downtown San Diego community requires excellent customer service skills and the desire to help others.

Essential Job Functions & Duties 90%

  • Perform landscape maintenance, which involves raking leaves and removing weeds
  • Perform tree trimming in all neighborhoods
  • Perform tree planting and tree removal in all neighborhoods
  • Respond to landscaping calls from businesses and property owners
  • Remove graffiti and stickers on public property such as stops signs, light poles, sidewalks, and utility boxes.
  • Lift heavy trash bags (up to 50lbs) and empty public trash receptacles
  • Pick up any illegal dumped trash located in their field of operations
  • Clean, maintain and operate issued equipment, including vehicles, phones, and radios
  • Obey traffic laws and code compliance regulations in accordance with California State law.
  • Provide excellent customer service assistance with residents, business owners, tourists, and patrons
  • Participate in daily line-ups of and safety readings/stretches for maintenance personnel
  • Conduct daily inspections of personnel and equipment before and after use
  • Perform quality assurance duties as directed
  • Perform daily pre/post vehicle inspections and document vehicle status
  • Compile daily statistics using eponic work logs, recording completed work orders
  • Complete quarterly training under the direction of shift Supervisor every 3 months.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Executive Director, Director of Maintenance Services, Operations Manager, and Shift Supervisor.

Administrative Tasks 10%

  • Adhere to all local, state, federal guidelines and laws. (i.e. HIPAA, OSHA, FLSA, traffic laws)
  • Adhere to all of the DSDP policies and procedures
  • Answer all calls and radios communication, in a polite and professional manner
  • Clean, maintain, and operate company issued equipment, including vehicles, phones, and radios
  • Use company telephone for data collection (Eponic) and timecard features (Paylocity)

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year of previous landscaping experience
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
  • Ability to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Outstanding customer service skills, in person and electronically (radio/ phone)
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English. Bilingual or Multilingual a plus
  • Ability to use a cell phone for data collection

The 24/7 Operations consists of maintenance services along the public right of way, beautification efforts along with security and outreach services. This includes sweeping, trash removal, doggy bag dispenser refill, tree trimming, pressure washing, graffiti, gum, and sticker removal. The Clean & Safe Operations is committed to providing great customer service along with providing a cleaner and safer downtown to our stakeholders and residents.

In all, these programs provide an annual contractual budget of approximately $13 million annually.
