Job Description SummaryThe System Security Engineer 1 support engineering, integrating, and deploying trustworthy and secure platforms that resist cyber, reverse engineering, and supply chain threats. They bring a Systems Engineering perspective to support the development of system architectures for secure solutions. They support the analysis of Draper, customer, and sponsor developed systems to evaluate effectiveness and suitability and support the development and fielding of secure systems from component to weapons system level. The group features multidisciplinary proficiencies in secure systems architecture, hardware security and resilience, software security and resilience, system validation and accreditation, and cryptography.
Duties/ResponsibilitiesJob Description:
  • Develop, execute and track the performance of security measures to protect information and network infrastructure and computer systems.
  • Design computer security strategy and engineer comprehensive cybersecurity architecture.
  • Identify, define and document system security requirements and recommend solutions to management.
  • Configure, troubleshoot and maintain security infrastructure software and hardware.
  • Install software that monitors systems and networks for security breaches and intrusions.
  • Monitor systems for irregular behavior and set up preventive measures.
  • Plan, develop, implement and update company’s information security strategy.
  • Educate and train staff on information system security best practices.
  • Ability to independently complete assignments by applying technical knowledge to defined problems with minimal oversight.
  • Contribute content for technical reports and presentations with appropriate guidance
  • Adapt appropriately to changes in program requirements.
  • Identify challenges associated with assigned work and communicate them to project leadership.

EducationRequires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
Experience0-2 years' experience of working on System Security Engineer or other relevant position.
Additional Job DescriptionRequired Qualifications:
  • Minimum BS degree in a technically relevant engineering field with 2-4 years of relevant experience or a MS degree
  • Critical thinking skills for framing, analyzing, and synthesizing complex problems qualitatively and quantitatively
  • Proficiency in full life-cycle systems engineering (concept development, trades & analysis, requirements definition, architecture & design compliance, integration & test, and certification & deployment) of security technologies and components within cyber-physical systems and systems-of-systems
  • Familiarity with attack surface modeling, cryptographic, and vulnerability management approaches and techniques
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively with customers, engineers, managers, and other relevant stakeholders –both verbally and written
  • Flexibility to multi-task, adapt to evolving problems, and document contributions
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency maturing system security concepts and design principles
  • Experience with Model-based System Engineering toolkits, such as Cameo/MagicDraw, DOORs/DoorsNG, Jama Connect, MATLAB, and Python/Dash
  • An understanding of the fundamentals of cryptographic key management, public key infrastructure, and NSA’s Key Management Infrastructure, and the applications of cryptology
  • An understanding of supply chain operations, risk management framework, information assurance, technology protection
