DIAGNOSTIC TECHNICIAN
- JOB TITLE: Diagnostic Automotive Technician.
- REPORTS TO: General Manager.
- SUPERVISES: N/A.
- DEPARTMENT: Operations.
- LOCATION: Applicable Store Locations.
- FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Identifies mechanical problems, either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
- Performs tests on specific parts and systems to confirm proper mechanical function; ensures that all critical parts are examined.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance, including oil changes and tune-ups.
- Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems, such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
- Performs further tests, which may include test driving the vehicle, to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
- Examine critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
- Plan and establish a timetable to complete repairs and maintenance.
- Provide timely communication with management and team members regarding status and applicable needs.
- Record and report any damage to company or customer property immediately.
- All other duties as assigned based on the needs of the business.
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.
- Excellent mechanical repair skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
- Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
- Ability to read and comprehend service and repair manuals.
- Ability to read and comprehend work orders.
- Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.
- Must have the ability to perform work in a safe manner and adhere to safety policies.
- Must have initiative and the ability to work in a team environment or independently.
- Must be able to handle pressure and think clearly in all situations.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Master technician certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence required.
- Three to five years of related experience is highly desired.
- Customers.
- Frequent interaction within the work location, including but not limited to some interaction with corporate personnel as needed.
- Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
- Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to inspect the vehicle to determine repairs needed.
- Good vision to inspect repair work.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
- Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when applicable.
