Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy.
The position is accountable for a portfolio of assigned projects with varying levels of risk that impact various levels of the Company, Senior Management, and Energy Services customers. PM level may be assigned projects with specific risk-informed requirements based on specific experience and skill sets.
Project Manager position has single point accountability under general direction of the Director of Operations. PM-I and II positions are responsible for managing all phases of project execution to ensure project success factors are met. These include but not limited to scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental, safety, communications, security, and integration.
The position level is defined by complexity of projects assigned as well as expected and delivered contributions to support development of assigned projects but also the process and tools used across the Energy Services Operations organization. Typically, PM-2 responsibilities are for more complex projects, usually technical in nature, and include expectations to be active and vocal in enhancing the department’s objectives and initiatives. This can include stepping up to take on special assignments.
PM's serve as unifying agents providing leadership, decision making, management, guidance, coordination, and control of overall projects in accordance with established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements of the Company.
Entry to either PM level is based on experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, and should align with business unit personnel needs to manage the portfolio.
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following Lead Project Team
  • PM's provide leadership , oversight, delegation, and coordination with various internal and external organizations providing services to the project execution that can include Design, Project Controls, Estimating, Construction Oversight, Supply Chain, Legal, EHS, QA/OC, Operations, Diagnostics, Communications, Stakeholder Engagement, Regulatory, Security, Fuels, etc.).
  • PM's coordinate and collaborate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers daily to manage preventive and corrective maintenance and operation of Duke Energy Services systems.
Establish and maintain communications among project stakeholders
  • Structure, lead, or assist in project related meetings to ensure open communication with key stakeholders including Duke Energy Services customers, management, coworkers, contractors, and vendors. This can include preparing and communicating periodic and ad hoc reports, project status, and maintenance timing and procedures, both verbally and in written communications.
Manage project(s) including scope, schedule, cost, safety, and system performance
  • Manage the life of projects post construction including contracting, schedule development, monitoring, cost control measures, procurement/contracting strategies, vendor selection, warranty management, and integration processes as applicable.
Execute projects according to design with approved scope, cost and schedule constraints
  • Includes objectives, stakeholders, scope, roles and responsibilities, assumptions and constraints, deliverables, schedule, external communication, regulatory strategy, procurement strategy, contractor and supplier strategy, resource plan, budget, lessons learned, risk plan, quality plan, safety plan, environmental plan, security plan, integration plan, data management plan, communications and reporting plan, and change management.

Basic/Required Qualifications (PM I)
  • Associates degree and 2 years related work experience OR
  • High School/GED degree and 5 years related work experience
  • Valid driver's license

  • Bachelors degree and 5 years related work experience OR
  • High School/GED degree and 9 years related work experience
  • Valid driver's license
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree
  • 4 years related experience
  • Certified Associate of Project Management
  • Professional Engineer
  • Project Management Professional
  • Utility Technical Certifications or Training
  • Working knowledge of diesel and natural gas fired electric power generators and systems
  • Working knowledge of low and medium voltage switchgear
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Working Knowledge of Decision Making, Critical Thinking, and Problem Solving
  • Project related work experience
  • Risk Management, Project Leadership, Proven Collaborative Team Member
  • Utility Experience, Construction Management knowledge
  • Working knowledge to proficiency in project related Scheduling/ Cost Controls
Working Conditions
  • Field Mobility Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
  • The Duke Energy assigned facility will be Florida West Duke Energy territory.
  • Office, field and remote environment
  • Field work including driving to sites, performing inspections, rarely operating equipment
