Duke University is Hiring a CHAPLAIN Near Durham, NC
Explanation of why this classification is not considered to be an 'employee' of the University under guidelines for being an employee as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act. The Chaplains who are employed on a part-time or full basis by the different church agencies are members of the Duke Religious Life Staff. The appointment of these persons is a joint appointment made by the church agency and Duke University. The church agencies are responsible for providing the salary for these persons. As a sign of Duke's commitment to this work and of the chaplains 'responsibility not only to the church but also to the University, Duke provides the chaplains with a$720 a year stipend and with limited services; such as office space, library, and parking privileges.
The Duke Campus Minister must be a caring person of integrity, having a presence at the University, available to and committed to the students, and capable of developing student leadership. The campus minister should have theological and biblical knowledge, counseling skills, and the ability to preach. Fundraising ability will be an asset.
The minimum education expected would be a Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate major before campus ministry or related experience is desired.
