Summary/Objective
Directs the operation of and provides oversight for the True North AmeriCorps Program including programs, volunteer and staff development, financial development, community relations and collaborations with community agencies. The True North AmeriCorps Director will ensure that AmeriCorps Members have a transformative service experience that advanced their own goals for person growth and development. This position is made possible through a grant from ServeMinnesota in partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).

Essential Functions
  • Participate in training provided by ServeMinnesota and other AmeriCorps consultants. The TNAC Director will have an intensive AmeriCorps training as part of their onboarding process. The training will include an overview of AmeriCorps guidelines, requirements and unallowable activities. There will be in-depth conversation about reporting requirements, expectation for monitoring AmeriCorps members including weekly check-ins, observations and monthly training.
  • Understand and enforce all AmeriCorps and program policies and procedures using the forms and guidelines provided by the program.
  • Facilitate, manage, and develop True North AmeriCorps program, including recruitment of members and site locations, member training/orientations and technical assistance, site supervisor training, communication and site visits, data collection and relationships with necessary external entities for the success and improvement of the program.
  • Plan initial training for members as well as ongoing training to support their work. Coordinate with outside agencies to provide specialized training in Social Emotional Learning. Plan and lead training on necessary job skills and other pertinent topics that will ensure the success of each member.
  • Compose and submit AmeriCorps operational grant application for re-compete and continuation.
  • Secure funding sources, through sponsorships or grants, to supplement CNCS funds for the Corps.
  • Track and report progress toward programmatic outcomes and goals in accordance with requirements and schedules set forth in grantor agreements, communicate data collection needs to program and administrative staff, and coordinate financial requests and reporting with finance/accounting staff.
  • Align AmeriCorps service model with the Duluth Area Family YMCA’s model to create a program design programmatic goals, outcomes and continuity.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with local organizations, including establishing site selection process and agreements, as well as assisting with service member placement, and builds program capacity by recruiting future program sites.
  • Facilitates the member application, enrollment, and exit processes by ensuring strict compliance to AmeriCorps regulations and requirements are met.
  • Directly supervises and provides day-to-day support to AmeriCorps members and provides high level oversight.
  • Conducts regular site visits and additional site visits as needed, provides and tracks input and feedback to continually improve program outcomes.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the program’s operating budgets and meets or exceeds budget targets.
  • Directs program strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan for the programs.
  • Directs program marketing and communication efforts to effectively communicate benefit to the community.
  • Analyzes data in accordance with evaluation plans for specific programs, specifically using SPSS and other federal web-based reporting systems.
  • Attend training conferences conducted or authorized by AmeriCorps and ServeMinnesota .
  • Fosters an inclusive environment appreciative of differences in the workplace. Meaningfully participate in and lead efforts to support the Y’s commitment to equity and diversity.

  • Completes other duties as assigned and meets deadlines.

Supervisory Responsibility
The Director will be responsible for supervising program AmeriCorps Members, and volunteers.
Work Environment
The Director will work in an office setting and utilize office equipment.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are mainly Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend events.
Travel
Travel will be necessary to other office locations for the Duluth Area YMCA, to host AmeriCorps sites, and for trainings outside and inside the Duluth area.
Required Education And Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Skills in grant writing and grant management experience.
  • Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, grant writing, and program development.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Commitment of supporting principles of equal opportunity and affirmative action to achieve a diverse work environment.
Preferred Education And Experience
  • Previous professional experience with an AmeriCorps program.
  • Experience with Federal grants and knowledge of the OBM Super Circular.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Must be able to pass a Truescreen and Fieldprint background check.
