Biomedical Equipment Technician

Fargo, ND and Black Hills, SD

This is a great role if you like to be on the go, work with your hands to fix things, and want to support our veterans! We are looking for several Biomedical Technicians to support the Department of Veterans Affairs as they roll out a new Electronic Health Record.

VA’s Healthcare Technology Management / Biomedical Engineering will be implementing the latest technology to support providing the best care for the Nation’s Veterans. All roles require a two year associate degree OR military schooling, but range from one year of experience up to 10 years!

Responsibilities:

  • Perform incoming inspection and periodic inspection on both new and current medical equipment or devices and
  • Perform quality assurance check to assure that equipment conforms to manufacturer literature for components, parts, and performance.
  • Install, Calibrate and Test medical equipment or devices in accordance with manufacturer’s literature, certification to perform installation actions, and/or biomedical engineering department authorization to perform installation.
  • Perform Inventory and Asset Management of medical equipment and document according to VA process and proceedures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance checks
  • Perform troubleshooting of equipment or device malfunction to determine source or cause of defect or malfunction.
  • Perform scheduled and/or unscheduled maintenance.
  • Document using VA’s electronic system according to the VA standards

Required Skills and Experience:

  • A two-year associate degree or higher in an applied science or equivalent military training.
  • Demonstrated competency to perform operational verification procedures, planned maintenance, and repair service on various types of medical equipment.
  • Understanding of regulatory agencies’ requirements, industry regulatory requirements and International Standard Organization standards.
  • Familiarity with the setup and application of test equipment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical literature, schematics, and drawings.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance

Levels:

  • Level I - A minimum of one year of hospital or healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance
  • Level II - A minimum of three years of hospital or healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance.
  • Level III - A minimum of five years of hospital or healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance.
  • Level IV - A minimum of ten Years of hospital or healthcare experience
  • Leader – Includes Multiple years of leadership experience

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in or with a VA medical center’s or other healthcare facility’s (preferably a hospital or large clinic) biomedical engineering department
  • Experience working in or with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) if possible
  • Understanding of Biomedical Engineering department operations
