Description

We are currently hiring for a Lead Ophthalmic Technician to join our ever-growing team of professionals who share our main focus of GREAT PATIENT CARE!

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have skills that are learned to work in any capacity of Ophthalmology, Optometrics, CTL’s, pre-testing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (both written and oral)
  • Proven ability to work well in a supervisory capacity. Demonstrates skills in motivating and training a professional staff.
  • Personable and empathetic with patient’s needs and concerns.
  • Multi-tasking of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Demonstrate computer literacy.

Responsibilities:

Personnel Supervision

  • Assists in training and disciplinary action of technical staff under supervision of practice administrators. (Site Manager, Operations Manager, HR Director)
  • Supervises technical staff, including preparing and monitoring job duties and performance. Completes annual performance evaluations for technical staff as well as for newly trained staff (45/90-day reviews).
  • Maintains employee confidentiality.
  • Oversees training of clinical staff, including the immediate supervision of untrained technicians. Completes new hire checklist.
  • Appropriately schedules technical staff in accordance with clinic needs, filling in when necessary; approves time off requests for technical staff.
  • Review technical staff schedules for all locations, ensuring schedules are entered into the Master Technician schedule, on the shared drive, no later than Thursday of the week prior.
  • Facilitate technician coverage requests for all locations, ensuring that adequate staffing is available for each provider and clinic, to maintain optimal clinic flow.
  • Organizes and conducts regular monthly meetings of technical staff.
  • Attends (and often times conducts) all Tech meetings (in applicable Geographical Region) as well as help facilitate regular Lead Tech meetings.
  • Consults with Site Manager on problems and interpretation of policies to ensure patient needs are met.
  • Develops and implements protocols for continuing education of technical staff.
  • Plans and organizes in-service training programs on all equipment at the location.
  • Maintains functional knowledge of all technical staff responsibilities.

Clinic Responsibilities

  • Performs patient workups and diagnostic testing as required.
  • Answers patient questions and telephone inquiries, including but not limited to, attaining resolution to patient problems.
  • Makes sure that specialized testing and procedures are covered by trained personnel.
  • Be encouraging and sensitive to all staff needs and concerns.
  • Assists with oversight of retina drug supply, by helping with inventory audits, ensuring drugs are checked in/out appropriately, and refrigerators are well maintained.
  • Secure patient information and maintain patient confidentiality by completing safeguarding medical records and by maintaining accuracy of diagnostic and procedure coding.
  • Maintain integrity of office equipment and facilitate repair requests in a timely manner.

Triage

  • Determines the flow of daily clinics.
  • Maintains a smooth flow of patients to the physician, altering the test sequence as required.
  • Provide telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, prescription refills, and patient care questions.
  • Communicate with front office to facilitate proper patient flow.

Administrative

  • Ensures all clinic instruments/equipment is functioning properly; troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment; requests repairs and maintenance, as needed.
  • Schedules all preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment.
  • Provides back-up support to other technicians, including approving medication/clinic supply orders, returning patient phone calls or delegating managing prescription refills, and responding to contact lens calls.
  • Maintain inventory levels, delegates orders of clinical supplies.
  • Assists management with addressing physician and patient complaints, issues with technical quality or performance concerns.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve departmental process for productivity and service.
  • Partners with clinical management to plan, manage, and communicate operational changes to technical staff.
  • Promotes a culture of safety by ensuring staff compliance with all established policies and procedures, safety, and infection control.
  • Consults with Division Managers/Operations Manager when doctors request to block or cancel clinic.
  • Assists with check-in and check-out questions as needed.
  • Assists pre-op with appointment scheduling and surgery scheduling as needed.
  • Turns in time off requests to Site Manager and assist with technical staff attendance.
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

Lead Ophthalmic Technician Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must possess strong computer skills
  • Ophthalmic Technician experience required
  • COA or COT certification preferred
